This ferris wheel dominates the skyline above Luna Park amusement park, in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. The ride provides spectacular views of Sydney Harbour as it rises to 40 metres.

Milsons Point, Luna Park, Coney Island

Coney Island is part of the Luna Park amusement park, in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. Coney Island Funny Land is a heritage listed fun house which opened in 1935. It features such classic amusements as the Turkey Trot, Barrel of Laughs, Giant Slides and the Wonky Walk. This art deco building is also used as a venue for functions. It is dominated by a large Russian style onion dome and minarets.

Milsons Point, ferry wharf

This ferry wharf on Sydney Harbour is located in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. The wharf is near the entrance to Luna Park and close to the northern pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is serviced by Sydney Ferries which provide regular services from Circular Quay and Darling Harbour to other suburbs.

Milsons Point, Luna Park

The entrance to Luna Park, an amusement park in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. Luna Park opened in 1935, on the site of the former workshops for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. At the moment, the face sports a moustache for Movember, an event that started in Australia in 2004. During November each year, men grow moustaches for Movember to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health.

Milsons Point, Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace is located on the shore of Sydney Harbour, in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. Crystal Palace is an events venue which is part of the Luna Park amusement park, which opened in 1935. From 1924 to 1932, Dorman Long and Co occupied the site to build parts for the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Balmain, shipyard

The Balmain Shipyard is located off Waterview Sreet in the inner west suburb of Balmain. The Balmain Ferry Maintenance Centre uses these wharves to repair and maintain Sydney Ferries. A water taxi makes its way across Mort Bay.

This dramatic sky was on view at sunset after a storm. The wind turbine is located along the foreshore of Blackwattle Bay, in the inner west suburb of Glebe. The former White Bay Power Station at Rozelle can be seen on the opposite shore.

Barrack Street, Youngsters

“Youngsters” is an art installation located in the Barrack Street pedestrian mall, as part of the Art and About Sydney festival. This is one of two bronze sculptures of children dressed in hoodies, baggy pants and sneakers, created by Caroline Rothwell. The festival brings art to the city laneways and public spaces transforming them into intriguing and inviting places.

Hay Street, railway bridge

This sandstone railway bridge over Hay Street is viewed from Castlereagh Street. It was built as part of the City Circle underground railway line. The first stage was opened in 1926 from Central railway station to Museum and St James stations. The sandstone was recently cleaned and restored.

Sutherland, Woronora Cemetery, Stations of the Cross

The “Stations of the Cross” monument was installed in 2012 at Woronora General Cemetery,  in the southern suburb of Sutherland. The sculpture behind this information board is similar to the fourteen sculptures carved from single granite blocks. They feature a series of scenes that depict Christ’s final hours before the Crucifixion. Special devotions have been written to commemorate each of the Stations and the faithful are invited to walk clockwise to each Station, reflecting as they progress. The “Resurrection of Christ” statue has been placed in the centre with each Station symbolically looking inwards.

Sutherland, Woronora cemetery, pergola

The Woronora General Cemetery is located in the southern suburb of Sutherland. This pergola, near the Woronora Crematorium, is one of many found in the landscaped gardens at the cemetery. The cemetery opened in 1895 with a special branch railway line bringing funerals to the cemetery.

Sutherland, Woronora Cemetery, monument

This monument stands in the Catholic section of the Woronora General Cemetery, in the southern suburb of Sutherland. Located at the end of a pathway leading from the “Resurrection of Christ” statue, is this pool and empty white cross with a dove carrying an olive leaf, symbolic of hope and the Holy Spirit.

Sutherland, Woronora Cemetery, statue

The "Resurrection of Jesus" is a statue which stands in the Catholic section of the Woronora General Cemetery, in the southern suburb of Sutherland. This 3 metre tall statue which weighs 3.5 tonnes was installed in 2012 as part of a "Stations of the Cross" monument. It has been placed in water, symbolic of Christ's life giving message: "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The Woronora Crematorium is located in the Woronora General Cemetery, in the southern suburb of Sutherland. This heritage listed building features the West Chapel and the South Chapel and is surrounded by memorial gardens. It was designed by architect Louis Robertson in the art deco architectural style and was completed in 1934.

Centennial Park, Duck Pond

This viewing area looks out across Duck Pond in Centennial Park  in the eastern suburbs. It features a unique decorative fence and is shaded by palms which line Parkes Drive. The birds in the pond include waterfowl, ducks, ibises and swans, while the trees and  fence attract pigeons and sea gulls.

Tom Uglys Bridge, Georges River

Tom Uglys Bridge crosses the Georges River and links the southern suburbs of Blakehurst and Sylvania. This sunset view is from the Sylvania end between the truss bridge on the left, which opened in 1929 and the box girder bridge on the right, which opened in 1987. It looks north towards Tom Uglys Point at Blakehurst, believed to be named after local resident Tom Huxley and transformed by the mispronunciation by local Aborigines.

Tamarama, Sculpture by the Sea, bench

During the 16th annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, three bench seats along the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama were replaced by colourful benches which were orignally from a historic cemetery. Love, Cherish and Remember were created by Patricia Procliv. The "Love" bench was in red and featured the words "precious, deep affection". The "Cherish" bench was in purple with the words "nurture, care for tenderly" and the "Remember" bench was in blue with "recall, retain a memory".

These sculptures were on either side of the beach at Tamarama, with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, or at Tamarama Park, which is behind the beach.

Tamarama, Sculpture By The Sea

The Optimist by Stephen Marr
"The Optimist" is a sculpture created by Stephen Marr. It currently stands on the edge of Marks Park in Tamarama overlooking the Pacific Ocean, as part of the 16th annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition. The exhibition has been running from the 18th October until 4th November 2012 and is located on the two kilometre coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama. It features over 100 works by Australian and international artists.
