Darlinghurst, Taylor Square, rainbow crossing

This "Rainbow Crossing" is on the corner of Bourke Street and Campbell Street at Taylor Square, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The crossing was installed for this year's Sydney Mardi Gras coming up on Saturday night. The former Commercial Bank building, which is available for lease, stands behind it.

Marrickville, stack

This heritage listed brick sewer vent stack is located along Premier Street, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. It was built in 1898 and is flanked by a couple of Water Board workers' cottages built in the Queen Anne Revival style.

Hyde Park Barracks

A view from the cafe in the grounds of Hyde Park Barracks, located along Macquarie Street. This heritage listed building was designed by colonial architect Francis Greenway and constructed by the convict labour between 1818 and 1819. It was the principal barracks for male convicts in the state of New South Wales, working in government employment around Sydney. From 1848 it was a dormitory for newly arrived female immigrants. From 1887 to 1979, state government offices were based here and today it is a museum operated by Sydney Living Museums.

Darlinghurst, Three Saints Square

This sculpture and bench are located in Three Saints Square which is bounded by Victoria Street, Oxford Street and Barcom Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. Three Saints Square was named in 2008 to recognise a trio of local landmarks: St Vincent's Hospital, the Notre Dame University campus and St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.

North Bondi, Wally Weekes Pool

Glebe, Polding Memorial Chapel

Polding Memorial Chapel sits beside the Good Samaritan Congregational Centre on the corner of Avenue Road and Arcadia Road, in the inner west suburb of Glebe. It was built in 1931 in the Inter-war Romanesque style as part of St Scholastica's convent and school. It was dedicated as a memorial to Archbishop John Bede Polding.

Chippendale, flats and shops

The "Strickland Building" contains residential flats, a gallery and retail shops along Cleveland Street, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. It was designed by R. M. Broderick and built in the early 1900s in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style.

Zetland, East Village, escalators

These escalators are located in the East Village shopping centre, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. They have been decorated with a rainbow theme for the annual Sydney Mardi Gras.

Darlington, factory

The heritage listed former factory is bounded by Lawson Street, Abercrombie Street, Ivy Street, Wilson Street and Ivy Lane, in the inner city suburb of Darlington. It was built in 1883 in the Federation style as a boot factory for McMurtrie, Kellermann & Co and later converted to a gas meter manufacturing works for Parkinson and Cowan, from the 1920s. In 1964, the building was purchased by Nedor Holdings for manufacturing handbags. During the 1990s, the building was occupied by the Australia Council. In 2002 it was redeveloped for use as residential apartments and offices and is now known as The Foundry.

St James Anglican Church

St James Anglican Church is located along King Street, with this view from Macquarie Street. This heritage listed church was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway in the Old Colonial Regency style. It is the oldest church building in Sydney and has been in continuous use from its consecration in 1824.

Moore Park, Sydney Football Stadium

Sydney Football Stadium, commercially known as Allianz Stadium in recent years, is located along Driver Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Moore Park. It was built on the former Sydney Sports Ground in 1988 and has been a premier venue for rugby league, rugby union and soccer. The stadium closed in 2018 with plans to demolish and rebuild it.

Paddington, Albury Hotel

The former Albury Hotel is located on the corner of Oxford Street and Barcom Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. It was built in the Inter-War Art Deco architectural style and was a pub until 2000. It is now used as a showroom for home furnishings.

Millers Point, fire station

This fire station is located along Kent Street, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. This contemporary building wouldn't look out of place as a modern house in a leafy suburb.

Stanmore, graffiti art

This mural is on a garage in front of a house, along Trafalgar Street, in the inner city suburb of Stanmore. This artwork seems to be the work of graffiti artist Phibs, who has his works on a number of buildings in the area such as this.

Randwick, Presbyterian Church

Randwick Presbyterian Church is located on the corner of Alison Road and Cook Street, in the eastern suburb of Randwick. This heritage listed church was designed by Sir John Sulman and built in 1890 in the Victorian Academic Classical style.

Queen Victoria Building, Lunar New Year, Pig

This installation is in the central atrium, beneath the historical dome, of the Queen Victoria Building (QVB). This peach blossom tree, which is 6 metres tall and more than 4 metres in diameter, has been created as a Wishing Tree for the Sydney Lunar Festival. The blossoms are actually hundreds of tiny felt piglets, in celebration of the Year of the Pig.

The Rocks, Lunar Lanterns, Sheep

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Sydney Lunar Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Pig. Bligh & Barney Reserve at The Rocks features these three lanterns created by Pamela Mei-Leng See titled "Electric Sheep", it is in reference to the Philip K Dick science fiction novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". The 2.5 metre design is in homage to the tradition of applying papercut designs to lanterns that commenced during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and the Merino, the favoured breed of sheep in Australia. The zodiac symbol of the Sheep can be characterised as tasteful, warm and intuitive. The sensitive Sheep offers a quiet life of creativity and compassion.

The Rocks, Lunar Lanterns, Ox

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Sydney Lunar Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Pig. The forecourt of Cadman's Cottage at The Rocks features this lantern created by Lauren Tan. It has two cyphers in Chinese heritage, the Ox and the Scholar Rock, emanating as one in a symbolic "surge of strength and knowledge". The zodiac symbol of the Ox is known for its diligence, dependability, strength and determination.

Sydney Opera House, Lunar Lanterns, Pig

Lunar Lanterns have been installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Sydney Lunar Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Pig. The forecourt of the Sydney Opera House features this giant lantern of a pig. Created by Qian Jian Hua, it is a deconstructed three-dimensional grid which has been carved out to form an abstract silhouette of a pig. The zodiac symbol of the Pig can be characterised as honourable, philanthropic and optimistic. They can be incredibly focused and achieve great things.

Stanmore, murals

These murals are on the side wall of a house on the corner of Liberty Street and Trafalgar Street, in the inner city suburb of Stanmore. They were painted in 2013 and feature Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn in a scene from the movie African Queen and Freddie Mercury, lead singer of Queen.

Tom Uglys Bridge

Tom Uglys Bridge crosses the Georges River between the suburbs of Blakehurst and Sylvania. This box girder span opened in 1987 and duplicated a truss span which opened in 1929 and can be seen here. When the original bridge was built, it was known as the Georges River Bridge, but was renamed to distinguish between the various bridges on the river following the opening of the Captain Cook Bridge in 1965 and the Alfords Point Bridge in 1973. Tom Uglys Bridge took its name from the southernmost part of Blakehurst, known as Tom Uglys Point, which is believed to be named after local resident Tom Huxley and transformed by the mispronunciation by local Aborigines.

Pitt Street, skybridge, Lunar New Year

These Maple trees are located along the skybridge walkway which links the Myer Department Store to Westfield Sydney Centrepoint over Pitt Street Mall. They have been created by Avatree for Lunar New Year celebrations coming up this week.

Pool of Reflection, lamp (Theme Day: White)

Looking past a lamp at the Pool of Reflection in Hyde Park South, in front of the Anzac War Memorial, towards Sydney Tower. The pool was built as a memorial to the Australian Imperial Force of World War 1.
