St Vincent's Hospital is a public hospital on Victoria Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The hospital was originally established in 1857 by five Irish Sisters of Charity, who had migrated to Sydney with a mission to help the poor and disadvantaged. This main building was designed by Wardell and Denning and built in 1921, in the Inter-War Free Classical style. The facade features verandas, integrated into free classical colonnades.

ReplyDeleteThanks and God bless.
The building seems to have been well maintained - lovely facade
ReplyDeleteThis is a seriously large piece of architecture in a crowded, inner suburb. How did they create so much space as late as 1921?
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent hospital, the columns are amazing.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Really pleased to see these heritage buildings preserved.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting building, but it seems like the architect pasted a lot of different features on the plans.
ReplyDeleteHels, they had either set aside the space for the hospital or more likely demolished the old hospital buildings on this site to build it.
ReplyDeleteA classic building - hope I am never inside!
ReplyDeleteGreat Shot! Such clean lines!! Thanx so much for visiting and following my blog - I'm honoured as I'm a great admirer of your photography!!
ReplyDeleteYou have photographed classic and historical building very well with the perfect blue sky behind it!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful architectural design.
ReplyDeletethat was a beautiful hospital though it's public...hope I could work there someday as a nurse..I'm a newly registered nurse in the Philippines..;)
ReplyDeletethough it's public? Public hospitals are the core part of the community's infrastructure.. the rest don't matter.
ReplyDeleteHels, this one certainly is public but there is also a St Vincent's Private Hospital right next door.
