Sydney Olympic Park, Newington Armory Wharf

A Sydney RiverCats class of catamaran operating on the Parramatta River from Parramatta to Circular Quay is passing Newington Armory Wharf, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park.

Sydney Olympic Park, Stadium Australia, Women's World Cup

Stadium Australia is in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It was originally built in 1999 as the Sydney Olympic Stadium for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. It has also been commercially branded as Telstra Stadium, ANZ Stadium and Accor Stadium. The stadium is hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the soccer tournament which is taking place from 20 July to 20 August 2023, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Australia has made it to the semi-finals for the first time and will be playing against England tonight. The 'Forest of Poles' in the foreground is the 'Games Memories' sculpture.

Sydney Olympic Park, Stadium Australia, Women's World Cup

Inside Stadium Australia, which is located in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is the soccer tournament, which is taking place from 20 July to 20 August 2023, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. This was during the national anthems before the quarter final match between England and Colombia. For the first time, Australia has made it to the semi-finals and will be playing here against England on Wednesday night.

Sydney Olympic Park, Athletic Centre

Newington Armory, Murama Dance Ground

The Murama Dance Ground is a functional indigenous art installation at Newington Armory, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It is located between the Wangal Walk and the Armory Leisure Fields and provides the community with a safe place to gather and participate in cultural and spiritual activities. There is a cauldron in the centre and four totem poles around the edge of the circle.

Newington Armory, art

Newington Armory is located at the end of Jamieson Street, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. Each of the four shields surrounding the boards feature different indigenous art.

Sydney Olympic Park, ferry wharf

Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf is located along the Parramatta River, in the western suburb of Wentworth Point. The original ferry wharf opened in 1997 to service the Sydney Olympic Park precinct for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. This pontoon extension was built in 2015. Sydney RiverCats are a class of catamarans operated by Sydney Ferries on the Parramatta River, which provide a regular service here from Circular Quay to Parramatta.

Newington Armory, mural

 This Aboriginal artwork decorates one of the buildings along Armory Wharf, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It was originally known as Building 15, associated with Newington Wharf which serviced Newington Armory.

Newington, wharf

This lifesaver is located along Newington Wharf, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The wharf is located along the southern shore of the Parramatta River and the George Kendall Riverside Park is located on the northern shore in Ermington.

Bicentennial Park, fountain

 This fountain stands at one end of an avenue of plane trees, located at the highest point of Bicentennial Park, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. At the other end is the Treillage Tower, a 3 storey, 17 metre high viewing tower constructed with trellis. Treillage is a French word for lattice, which was commonly used in gardens in the 16th century.

Bicentennial Park, pavilions

Platanus Pavilion is located in Bicentennial Park, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It provides shelter and barbecue facilities for visitors who picnic in the park.

Sydney Olympic Park, Brickworks

This heritage building is located along Marjorie Jackson Parkway, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. This is one of the remaining buildings located at the former State Brickworks which operated on this site from 1911 until 1988. The brickpit became a pond with the elevated Brickpit Ring Walkway above.

Sydney Olympic Park, Ken Rosewall Arena

The Tennis Centre is located along Rod Laver Avenue, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The main stadium was recently renamed Ken Rosewall Arena in honour of Australian tennis player Ken Rosewall. It was constructed for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and redeveloped in 2019 to become a multi-purpose indoor arena. The avenue is named after another tennis legend Rod Laver.

Sydney Olympic Park, Sports Halls

 A view of one of the Sports Halls from the corner of Olympic Boulevarde and New England Avenue, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The complex was built for 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and is used to host events in Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Handball and Futsal or Indoor Soccer. It is also a Sydney Showground venue for the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Sydney Olympic Park, Southee Complex

  The Southee Complex is located on the corner of Showground Road and Grand Parade, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The complex houses Exhibition Halls 5 & 6 of the Sydney Showgrounds, a purpose built venue for the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Sydney Olympic Park, In The Shadows

'In The Shadows' is an artwork created by Janet Laurence in 2000 which is located in a creek, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. This environmental art work creates an atmospheric zone through which one passes over bridges. It is made of twenty one vertical transparent wands, echoing scientific measuring instruments, standing at various heights within the creek. At varying intervals, water blurps and aerates randomly, atmospheric vaporous fog moves, rises and dissipates transforming and cooling the creek environment.

Sydney Olympic Park, bench

 This bench sits between the Wangal Walk and the Parramatta River, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. Wangal Walk is a walkway and cycleway. Wanngal Wetland and Newington Nature Reserve are behind the fence.

Sydney Olympic Park, Quay Centre

 Quay Centre, formerly the State Sports Centre, is located along Olympic Boulevarde in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It was known as the Basketball Centre during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and is now used for basketball, netball and gymnastics.

Newington Wharf, crane

A crane at Newington Wharf, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The old Armory Wharf serviced Newington Armory, the former Royal Australian Navy armament depot. The tramway lines connect Armory Wharf with various buildings on the reserve. The small sign instructs visitors to "help prevent the spread of COVID-19" with warnings.

Newington Armory, Gunpowder Magazine

Newington Armory is located at the end of Jamieson Street, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The Gunpowder Magazine was constructed in 1897 in the Federation style for the New South Wales Military Forces. It consists of three wide barrel-vaulted store rooms. The building is surrounded by flying buttresses added later, apparently to give extra support to the vaults, and by earthen banks to contain blasts. The site was vacated in 1996 with part of the land redeveloped as the Sydney 2000 Olympics Athlete's Village, now the suburb of Newington. The heritage-listed depot is now used for tourism.
