Lilyfield, wharf

This wharf is on Iron Cove on the Parramatta River, viewed from the foreshore at Sensory Park, in the inner west suburb of Lilyfield.

Dawes Point, Hickson Road

These former bond stores opposite Walsh Bay Wharves have been redeveloped for use as shops and restaurants along Hickson Road in the inner city suburb of Dawes Point. Feekah Cafe Sydney is described as a pink floral cafe and features window displays of pink flowers on pink bicycles. The tree casting a shadow is in the median strip of the road, where two blue, share e-bikes have also been abandoned.

South Hurstville, mural

 
This mural is located on a retaining wall along King Georges Road at Grosvenor Street, in the southern suburb of South Hurstville. It was created in 2022 by artist David Cragg in collaboration with Woniora Road School students and is inspired by local fauna. It includes a kookaburra, a superb fairy wren and two tawny frogmouths on branches. It replaces the Community Wall mural which was here.

'Astoria' is a block of flats, built in the art deco style, located along Fletcher Street in the eastern suburb of Tamarama.

Tamarama, Sculpture By The Sea

The 24th Sculpture by the Sea was located along the two kilometre coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama from 21 October to 7 November 2022. This sculpture was located at Mackenzie’s Point Lookout at Marks Park, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama with a backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. 'Lens' was created by Joel Adler.

Sydney Park, bridge

A bridge and a gabion retaining wall across a pond in Sydney Park, a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria.

Kyeemagh, rock groyne

This sea wall or rock groyne is located at the mouth of the Cooks River into Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Kyeemagh. It is one of many sea walls along Lady Robinson Beach which have been built to protect the sandy foreshore. The container terminals and vessel berths of Port Botany seaport can be seen in the distance.

Chippendale, Local Memory

Looking back at a temporary public art project called "Artists In Residence" on the heritage brewery buildings at Central Park site, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. "Local Memory" by Brook Andrew comprises of a series of portraits of people who worked in or were associated with the brewery's history between 1909 and 1998. The 18 portraits are almost 3 metres high each and fit neatly into the exposed grid of floors and walls on the northern exterior wall of the old Irving Street Brewery building.

Darling Point, relief sculpture

This sandstone retaining wall in the gardens of McKell Park, in the eastern suburb of Darling Point. The relief sculpture is of a Frangipani plant, native to Mexico, it also grows well in the hot dry climates of Australia.

Museum Railway Station

Museum railway station is located underneath the southern end of Hyde Park and named after the nearby Australian Museum. It is served by the T2 Airport, Inner West & South and T3 Bankstown line services. It was designed by John J.C. Bradfield and built in 1926 in the Inter-War Stripped Classical style. It was part of the Eastern City line from Central to St James and became part of the City Circle loop in 1956. The pedestrian tunnels feature a photo history of this station and the platforms feature various period advertisements such as this one for David Jones department store.

The Rocks, sculpture

This sculpture is on the wall of the Customs Officers Stairs at The Rocks. It is a war memorial created by Lyndon Dadswell, a lieutenant who created sculptures of his war time experience serving with the Australian infantry in the Middle East. The plaque below reads: In memory of the men of the 6th Australian division who sailed from these shores during World War 2 (1939-1945) to serve in North Africa, Greece, Syria, Ceylon and Papua New Guinea.

Paddington, Royal Hospital for Women Park

The Royal Hospital for Women Park is located in the inner city suburb of Paddington. It is bounded by Brown Street, Glenmore Road and Flinton Street. It takes its name from the Royal Hospital for Women which stood on the site and surrounding land between 1901 and 1997.

Banksia, mural

This mural runs along the external wall of the railway station, in the southern suburb of Banksia. The mural incorporates a flow of stainless steel Banksia leaves, a concept developed by Ruth Downes and Geoff Webster. Banksia, the plant and the suburb, are named after Joseph Banks, a naturalist along with Daniel Solander, on the expedition of the Endeavour led by James Cook. They explored the eastern coast of Australia in 1770 and landed at nearby Botany Bay. The first and last leaves are inscribed with the following quotes from their journals. "The great quantity of plants Mr Banks and Dr Solander found in this place occasioned my giving it the name Botany Bay" James Cook - May 1770. "Of Plants in general the countrey afforded a far larger variety than its barren appearance seemed to promise" Joseph Banks - August 1770. More of the mural can be seen here.

Kurnell, Silver Beach

Silver Beach is located along the shore of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Kurnell. This viewing platform with a surfboard bench, looks out on the rockwall 'groynes' in the bay constructed to prevent severe beach erosion. In the distance is the long Kurnell wharf used by oil tankers for the nearby oil refineries. On this really cool day there weren't many people swimming but there was one brave soul in the water.

Birchgrove, Ballast Point Park, walkway

This walkway runs along the northern side of Ballast Point Park, in the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. It provides great views of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Annandale, mural

This is part of a large mural located on a wall along The Crescent, in the inner west suburb of Annandale. The retaining wall supports the metro tram line from Glebe to Lilyfield. The artwork is actually known as the "Glebe mural" and it features past and present images from the local area. It was commissioned by Leichhardt Council in 1980 and painted by Richard Monk..

Annandale, mural

This is part of a large mural located on a wall along The Crescent, in the inner west suburb of Annandale. The retaining wall supports the metro tram line from Glebe to Lilyfield. Known as the "Glebe mural", it features past and present images from the local area. It was commissioned by Leichhardt Council in 1980 and painted by Richard Monk, who has painted over 400 public murals around Australia. It was updated by the same artist in 2004, with some new local landmarks added, like the Anzac Bridge silhouette. I like the way the trunk of the real palm tree is extended down into the mural.

Monterey, sea wall
