These high voltage power lines and towers run through the middle of Rookwood Cemetery. Similar towers dominated the skyline through nearby Homebush Bay until about ten years ago. When it was transformed into Olympic Park for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the unsightly structures were replaced with underground cables. There hasn't been a need to the same with the rest of those lines which run through this cemetery. The brilliant sky above last weekend made them look slightly less unsightly. Also, some good clouds in the cemetery post below.
I would never have thought of taking a photo of power lines.... yet it is a great photo with the clouds.
ReplyDeleteWe have these in our neck of the woods too. They are ugly. However, you somehow managed to make it appear attractive. Beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteA beaut collection of photos, I really enjoyed it, well done.
ReplyDeleteTerrific capture and beautiful skies in spite of the power. Hope your have a great weekend!

Power lines can work well, especially against the sky. Must get out to Rookwood, especially looking at those mausolea from yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I have something similar to this in my archives too.

Great view and angle. Love it
ReplyDeleteThe construction of power lines are somehow interesting against the blue sky.
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty blue sky. I guess you have a good weather in your area. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteSWF~Blue puffy sky
I like the contrast...hard electrical power lines against wispy clouds driven by wind.
ReplyDeleteThe sky looks great.
ReplyDeleteI think the sky is so beautiful that the power lines almost look like modern art. Sometimes power lines bother me but at other times I see them almost as modern sculpture. That said, I think it's better to have them underground. This is a beautiful shot.
ReplyDeleteJ Bar: Neat look at the sky through the power tower.
ReplyDeleteI to0k a lot of p0werlines ph0tos and still sitting 0n my archives,i always th0ugh it may n0t be a g0od subject but y0u did well with it,beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThey almost look like abstract art. As an engineer I can say that without irony or sarcasm.
ReplyDeletebeautiful sky:)
ReplyDeleteWe have some big lines like this around here. Maybe I should try getting a photo. Yours is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAh, power lines...an equal portion of unsightly and lovely lies in all of them :o)They can add a wonderful touch to photos of the sky though, as shown here. I've featured power lines in a few of my photos too!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my entry. Looks like the tower is very near the sky, lovely!
ReplyDeletebeautiful blue
ReplyDeleteStunning... You make power lines looks good here :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by...
Nice blue sky. It's nice to see that power tower against the beautiful blue sky. I tried taking similar picture but ended up unsatisfied. Alas..all of it are still stored in my file archives :-( Yours is simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Funny how power lines look great in photographs! I also enjoyed strolling through the cemetery; there are certainly many interesting monuments to honor loved ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and amazing perspective!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog!
Great sky and capture.
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF.
I am always trying to avoid power lines, and here they are so beautifully presented. Lovely blue sky!
ReplyDeleteThis is one beautiful shot! A few blocks where I live, there are rows and rows of power lines!
ReplyDeleteAlmost the echo of Rookwood photo in other post (I did say ALMOST!!)Thanks for visit.
ReplyDeleteThat was some powerlines and a big tower..great shot.

Lovely skies - so blue! Underground cables are definitely the way to go...
ReplyDeleteThe sky in the background is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat angle and sky!:-)
ReplyDeleteThe sky is beautiful, I would prefer the powerline under the ground ! and not only for Olympic games !
ReplyDeleteA powerful Skywatch image! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty sky thru the power lines and tower.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sky Watch Friday, always enjoy seeing what sites of Sydney you have found to show with us each week.
ReplyDeletethe sky together with everything, dear, gives to us...NATURAL ART.

Cracking composition here!..... drab subject brought to life and brilliant sky too!.... thanks for sharing!...:)
ReplyDeleteSo electrifying haha!
ReplyDeleteWell done, your sky is just beautiful, the power lines give the best effect on it. What a perfect and magistic shot of it.
ReplyDeleteThe tower looks huge. I like the vaults in yesterdays post.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot, Jim. We couldn't live with out it.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks better with a bright blue sky behind it! Do any birds perch or nest on those towers? We often see vultures sitting on them here in the states.
ReplyDeleteThey are really becoming 'dinosaurs' all over with more and more cables running underground. Unsightly, but your picture makes them artistic.
ReplyDeleteSometimes - mostly depending of the sky above it - these powerlines and towers can be interesting objects. You've caught such a moment, I like it.
ReplyDeletePower lines...they are ugly and they remind us that our needs sometimes trump beauty--so we better think hard about what we need.
ReplyDeleteI think the pylon looks very silvery and elegant in your shot.
ReplyDeleteI still remember the constant humming of those cables...
ReplyDeleteNeat sites. I am planning a blog post on the machines around here. You are good inspiration! I found the Cosmic Joker in Muskoka skies!
ReplyDeleteSometimes a bit of technology in the shot emphasizes the contrast between nature and us. What I've always wondered is why we've never managed to create really great-looking high-voltage lines--why haven't we ever turned our engineering design needs over to somebody like Hector Guimard? Wouldn't electrical conduits designed like the Paris Metro stations make them a little easier to live with (or be dead under)?
ReplyDeleteOh, and the shot's pretty nifty, too.
What a great way to deal with the lines...to make them the subject. Very artistic shot!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, towering shot for SWF. It's funny to think of those big power lines running through a peaceful cemetery. No complaints from the residents there!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot and angle. Love the blue sky
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look autumn to me! Lovely sky!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!

Super sky shot, I love the power lines!
ReplyDeletePerfection personified...we don't usually care for clicking these...but this one is real beauty ..good job
ReplyDeleteThe clouds are great!
ReplyDeleteBeutiful picture!

P-TER
The sky is so blue
ReplyDeleteWren, I can't say I've ever noticed any birds nest on these sorts of towers. I don't think they suit Australian bird species.
ReplyDeleteOwlfarmer, good point about the tower designs. Apart from burying the lines underground, there hasn't been any imagination in improving their designs.
Nice shot, the tower and lines look great against that gorgeous sky.
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful of the pylon people to know their structures would make a good cloud photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!
ReplyDeletenice!
ReplyDeleteInteresting what happens when a huge amount of money is thrown at an area. Would love to get the cables underground around here just need to attract the olympics!
ReplyDeleteWow, nice photo! its amazing work.thanks.
