Randwick, car park

A view of the car park at Royal Randwick Racecourse, viewed from Ascot Street in the eastern suburb of Randwick. It's difficult to make a concrete multi-storey car park look good but they have made an attempt to disguise the fencing with these yellow adornments.

Balmain East, Propellar Park

A view of Mort Bay from Propellar Park, in the inner west suburb of Balmain East. The bay was named after industrialist and entrepreneur Thomas Sutcliffe Mort, who established Australia’s first major private dry dock along its foreshore in 1855. The park has large, historic ship propellers displayed along the shore as an acknowledgement of the area's ship building past.

Dulwich Hill, sculpture

This sculpture is located along the GreenWay in the inner west suburb of Dulwich Hill. 'Goods Stuff', created by James Voller in 2025, is a series of concrete and tile sculptures which form the train-like shape of an engine with three carriages. The GreenWay is a walking and cycling corridor which follows the route of the Inner West light rail and Hawthorne Canal.

Kogarah Bay, canal

The canal which carries Kogarah Bay Creek to Kogarah Bay, in the southern suburb of Kogarah Bay. This view is from the Carlton Crescent bridge and these palm trees which line the canal are in Carss Bush Park.

This house built in the Victorian style is located on the corner of Victoria Street and Toothill Street in the inner west suburb of Lewisham.

This reflection pool is in the grounds of Auburn Botanic Gardens, in the western suburb of Auburn.

Cronulla, Oak Park Pavilion

Oak Park Pavilion is located along The Esplanade, on the edge of Oak Park, in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It was built in 1939 by W.F. Foster and Co. in the art deco style overlooking a small beach and rock pool. This beach pavilion has change rooms, showers and public toilets.

Carss Park, baths

A partly cloudy sky above Carss Park Baths, a netted swimming area in Kogarah Bay, accessed from Carss Bush Park in the southern suburb of Carss Park.

Lilyfield Road Footbridge

 
These planter boxes and benches are on the Lilyfield Road Footbridge in the inner west suburb of Lilyfield. The bridge once carried cars over Hawthorne Canal where it connects to the Paramatta River. It was built in 1965, linking Lilyfield Road to Dobroyd Parade, but was replaced by a new canal crossing as part of the City West Link in 2000. This bridge was converted to a greenway with a path for pedestrians and a track for cyclists on either side.

Millers Point, Lord Nelson Hotel

The Lord Nelson Hotel is a heritage listed pub located on the corner of Kent Street and Argyle Place, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. It was designed by Michael Lehane and built in 1835 in the Old Colonial Regency style as a residence. A liquor licence was granted in 1842, making it the oldest working licensed pub in Australia.

Barangaroo, metro station, sculpture

This is one of seven artworks located on the sandstone concourse wall at Barangaroo metro station, an underground station in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. This station opened in 2024 when the Sydney Metro North West & Bankstown Line was extended from Chatswood to Sydenham via Central. ‘In Time We Shall’ was created by Western-Sydney artist Khaled Sabsasi. The seven circular 3-metre sculptures of trees have leaves fabricated from copper and steel.

Barangaroo, Vivid Sydney, Electric Dandelions

This installation was located along Wulugul Walk at Barangaroo for the Vivid Sydney Festival which ran from 22 May to 13 June 2026. "Electric Dandelions" were colourful LED animations which transformed flowers into fireworks.

Barangaroo, Vivid Sydney, Obstacle

This installation was located along Wulugul Walk at Barangaroo, near the Crown Sydney hotel and One Sydney Harbour apartments, for the Vivid Sydney Festival which ran from 22 May to 13 June 2026. "Obstacle" stretched 45 metres as both a barrier and beacon with blocks of luminous mesh creating a hypnotic corridor, with patterns glowing, flowing and gliding across its screens, synced to a radiant soundtrack.

Rozelle, motorway stacks

Looking across Rozelle Park to three chimney stacks above motorways in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. The Rozelle Interchange is an underground junction of the M4 and M8 Motorways which link to Anzac Bridge and the Western Distributor. The stacks were designed by architect Chris Fox as part of Rozelle Parklands, a 10-hectare (25-acre) open green space. It opened in 2023 and features wetlands, a village green, recreation areas and barbecue facilities.

Sutherland, shops

This commercial development faces Old Princes Highway and backs onto Eton Street, in the southern suburb of Sutherland. Although this is not a heritage building, it was designed to look like other historic buildings in the area. This is a historic photo too since it was taken in 2006 and the property management agent tenants have since moved out.

Cronulla, Oak Park Pavilion

Oak Park Pavilion is located in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It was built in 1939 by W.F. Foster and Co. in the art deco style. The building is located along The Esplanade, on the edge of Oak Park, overlooking a small beach and rock pool. This beach pavilion has change rooms, showers and public toilets. I took a photo of this fourteen years ago and the difference can be seen here.

Mascot, Twin Arch Bridges

A glimpse of the Twin Arch Bridge over Alexandra Canal between the trees along the shore. This view is from the walkway and bicycle track in Tempe Recreational Park, looking towards Sydney Airport in Mascot.

A view of the Ross Jones Memorial Pool next to the Surf Life Saving Club, from the upper promenade at Coogee Beach, in the eastern suburb of Coogee.

Pyrmont, Darling Island Wharf

Darling Island Apartments and Ballaarat Park are on Darling Island Wharf at Pyrmont Bay, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. The warehouse buildings on the wharves were were once part of Sydney's port facilities and have been redeveloped into apartments, office space and restaurants.

Breakfast Point, gates

The main entrance to the inner west suburb of Breakfast Point. Just inside the gates is the historic gate house for the former Mortlake Gas Works of the Australian Gaslight Company on this site from 1884 to 1998. The site was redeveloped to create a high density residential area with houses and high rise apartments. The historic gate house and offices have been retained and reused.
