Monterey, groyne

This rock groyne is located on Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Monterey. It is one of the sea walls along Lady Robinson Beach that have been built to protect the sandy foreshore. Sydney has just experienced it's wettest start of the year on record with torrential rain over sixteen consecutive days causing flooding in some parts. The Georges River and Cooks River empty into Botany Bay and the silt which washed into the bay turned it brown. This was taken a couple of days after the rain stopped and the rolling waves were still noticeably brown.

Botany Bay, rainbow (Theme Day: Ephemeral)

This rainbow at Botany Bay is viewed from the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands. I saw this rainbow when the sun came out after a storm but I had to be quick to photograph it since it was only around for minutes before it disappeared.

A rainbow above Arncliffe railway station is on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe, provides some colour in the sky on a grey day.

Botany Bay, rainbow

We've had a had a lot of grey skies and spring showers over the last week. On Friday afternoon, I noticed this amazing rainbow in the sky and followed it to Botany Bay. By the time I was out of my car, the storm clouds started gathering again and the rainbow had lost some of its brilliance but I managed a couple of snaps before it disappeared.

Arncliffe railway station, dust storm

It's been a week since we had the biggest dust storm in 70 years but I had one more photo to share from that day of Arncliffe railway station on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe.

Rockdale railway station, dust storm (Skywatch Friday)

On Wednesday morning an eerie orange-red glare covered Sydney's sky, caused by the worst dust storm in 70 years. Strong winds carried the iron-rich dust from the dry outback interior to the east coast, creating a orange-red haze. Dust storms are more common in the desert and outback but this was a very unusual sight for Sydney. The photos above were taken at Rockdale railway station around 6.45am, on my way to work. The photos below were taken from the same location on Thursday afternoon, on my way home from work. What a difference a day makes.
