Chippendale, signpost sculpture

This is one of two signpost sculptures which stand in the middle of indoor gardens in Central Park Mall, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. It is made up of copper pots which direct you to the location of Palace Cinemas on Level 3 and the eateries in the Level 2 food court. Looking across Yarra Bay to Frenchmans Beach in the eastern suburb of La Perouse. The wind was perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts.

Brighton-Le-Sands, mural

This mural has been painted on three large shipping containers in Cook Park overlooking Lady Robinsons Beach and Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands. The local council placed these here recently after several large trees were illegally cut down with chainsaws. New trees have now been planted and the containers will stay in place to give them time to grow and become established and to deter future vandalism at the site. The mural features a yellow tailed black cockatoo amongst the blooms of a native Banksia tree, feasting on the pods.

Arncliffe, St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church

St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church is located along Wollongong Road, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. This former Methodist Church was built in 1907, which became part of the Uniting Church of Australia in 1977 and in 1980 a Coptic Orthodox Church.

Randwick, light rail stop


 The Randwick Light Rail Stop is located along High Street, which runs between the Wales Medical Centre and the Prince of Wales Hospital, in the eastern suburb of Randwick. It is the final destination on the L2 Randwick Light Rail service and this tram will soon be departing for Circular Quay.

Randwick, Corana and Hygeia

 'Corana and Hygeia' are terrace houses located along Avoca Street, in the eastern suburb of Randwick. These heritage listed homes were built in 1894 in the Victorian architectural style. These former residential buildings are now a boutique hotel known as The Lurline Randwick. This hotel had a different colour scheme a few years ago which can be seen here.

Gladesville, Christ Church

Christ Church is an Anglican church located on the corner of Victoria Road and Jordan Street in the north western suburb of Gladesville. It was designed Albert Bond, Cyril Blackett and Arthur Blackett. It was built in 1878 and was extended in 1886 and 1962.

This White-faced Heron forages for food along the fence between Cook Park and Lady Robinsons Beach, in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands. The view across Botany Bay is clear to Port Botany.

Botanic Gardens, bench

The Henry Kendall memorial seat is located in the Royal Botanic Gardens. The art deco style seat of carved sandstone was commissioned by Mrs A. Hamilton-Grey and designed by Wilfred Rhodes in memory of the poet Henry Kendall. It features two winged horses, Pegasus from Greek mythology, which were carved by L. Bicego in 1939. The back of the seat has inscribed lines from Kendall's works: "All my days have been the days of a laborious life and ever on my struggling soul has burnt the fierce light of this hurried sphere." This bench was previously located near the Woolloomooloo Gate entrance but has been moved outside the PlantClinic now.

The Sydney Buddhist Centre is located along Enmore Road, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. It is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community which draws on Buddhist traditions and meditation for daily life.

Alexandria, Sydney Park, wetlands

Looking across a pond in Sydney Park, a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. The former brickworks here have been transformed into parkland and wetlands. Stormwater is collected and recycled from surrounding suburban streets to provide constant running water in the wetlands. These poles are remnants of an old structure and if you look closely, you can see a cormorant with outstretched wings sunning itself on the first pole.

Sydney Park is a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. The former brickworks were transformed into parkland and wetlands. This view across one of the ponds is towards the chimney stacks at the north-west corner of the park, near St Peters. A fallen tree trunk has become lodged on the cascade and sprouted new leaves.

Arncliffe, railway station

 
Arncliffe railway station is on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. This night view of the Firth Street entrance looks towards the former ticket office and station master's office on the concourse. The railway station opened in 1884 and the lifts from the street to the concourse and down to the platforms were installed in 2016. A daytime view of this entrance can be seen here.

 'Belmont' is a heritage listed house located along Wollongong Road, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. It was built in the late 1800s in the Victorian style. The property is associated with Thomas and Alexander Milsop who made their fortunes in the Kurrajong Goldfield near Forbes. Their other property on the same block is 'Fairview'.

Earlwood, Uniting Church

The Earlwood Uniting Church is located along William Street, in the inner west suburb of Earlwood. The Earlwood Methodist Church was built here in 1922. Alterations and enlargements were made in subsequent years with the Methodist War Memorial Hall opening in 1955. The Uniting Church in Australia was formed in 1977 and today this church also conducts "Beth Eden" Indonesian services.

A couple of ducks glide across a pond in Sydney Park, a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. Some spring flowers have begun to bloom on the trees and bushes. The former brickworks here have been transformed into parkland with four cascading wetlands that attract birds. Stormwater is collected and recycled from surrounding suburban streets to provide constant running water in the wetlands.

Erskineville, art (Theme Day: Right Under Your Nose)


This artwork is located on the facade of a former warehouse along Rochford Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. "The Lips" features a mural created by artist Rachel Szalay in 2020, celebrating the Australian Golden Wattle and Flowering Gum Trees. The warehouse was built in the 1930s and was previously used as a co-working space for creative industry freelancers, small businesses and entrepreneurs. It has now been redeveloped and converted into a couple of residential properties. I photographed this artwork when the lips featured a different design, which can be seen here and originally when they were a plain red, which can be seen here
