Sutherland, Horizon Church

 
The Horizon Church is located on the corner of Stapleton Avenue and Merton Street in the southern suburb of Sutherland. The church was founded as Sutherland Assemblies of God denomination church in 1949. Over the years it has rebranded itself as the Christian Growth Centre, then the Shire Christian Centre and then in 2006 it was Shirelive, a Pentecostal Christian church affiliated with Australian Christian Churches. The church has been at this site since the early 1950s but this convention centre building was built in 2017 featuring an auditorium, offices and a youth centre.

Sylvania, church


This church is located along the Princes Highway in the southern suburb of Sylvania. The first church building for the Congregational Church was erected in 1903 and is still used today as Heritage Hall. This A-frame building was built in 1968 and became a Uniting Church in Australia following the union of the Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian denominations in 1977. It became the Shire Gateway Uniting Church but the building is now shared with St. Prophet Elijah Macedonian Orthodox Church.

Millers Point, The Garrison Church, Vivid Sydney

The Garrison Church at Millers Point was illuminated for the Vivid Sydney Festival which ran from 22 May to 13 June 2026. "Deep Time", created by Spanish studio Hotaru Visual Guerilla, the artwork dives back 4.54 billion years with a surreal 3D-projection that travels through Earth's ecological growth.

Kogarah, skyline


A view of the skyline in the southern suburb of Kogarah from the rooftop of a highrise apartment building along Montgomery Street. There is a concentration of apartment and office buildings in this suburb. Notable landmarks seen here are the new wing of St George Hospital, Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, Kogarah Library and Kogarah Town Square.

Allawah, church


This former church is part of the St George Christian School campus, located along Woids Avenue in the southern suburb of Allawah. It was built in 1901 in the Federation style as the Bellevue Congregational Church and was later known as the Allawah Uniting Church. It was decommissioned in 1995 and acquired by the St George Christian School, a non-denominational private school. It was restored in 2021 and became the Chapel Gallery.

Cronulla, Stella Maris chapel

 
The Stella Maris chapel is on the corner of Coast Avenue and Ingalara Avenue in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It is part of an aged care facility which has views of the ocean. Stella Maris is Latin for "Star of the Sea". The chapel features a prominent star in a hole in the brickwork of the facade, revealing the sky behind it.

 The annual light projection show on the façade of St Mary's Cathedral, as part of 'Christmas at the Cathedral' celebrations. It included an animated feature with music, telling the story of 'The Little Drummer Boy'.

St Mary's Cathedral, Christmas




The annual light projection show on the façade of St Mary's Cathedral, as part of 'Christmas at the Cathedral' celebrations, running from 17th December until 25th December. At the end, a menorah with candles was featured as a tribute to the Jewish victims of the recent Bondi tragedy.

Kingsford, Kingsway Church

Kingsway Church was built in the inter-war style and is located along Houston Road, in the eastern suburb of Kingsford. It is also known as the Indonesian Presbyterian Church, an English-speaking congregation established in 1988 as a congregation in the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

The Cornerstone Grace Church is a Community Church located along Woniora Road, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. These modern church buildings are functional but not as impressive as historic church buildings.

This church hall is located along Albyn Street, in the southern suburb of Bexley. It was built in 1918 the Federation style and sits beside Christ Church Anglican Church built in 1887.

Kogarah, Uniting Church

These former factory buidings are bounded by Gray Street, Kensington Street and Post Office Lane in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The former Kogarah Methodist Church and the former Congregational Church amalgamated to form the Uniting Church. Those church buildings were sold and demolished in 1986 to facilitate the expansion of the St George Hospital. This nearby discarded factory became home to the Uniting Church Brighton-Kogarah Congregation and the Kogarah Storehouse, a public benevolent institution which provides support to those in need.

Surry Hills, St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church


St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church is located along Bourke Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This heritage listed church was originally built as a Congregational Church known as St Sophia and Her Three Daughters. It was designed by William Boles and built in 1880 in the Victorian Gothic style.

The Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church is in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was constructed in the 1980s but the facade was refurbished in 2021. The original brick facade can be seen here.

Haymarket, Christ Church St Laurence

 
A view of Christ Church St Laurence, an Anglican church located along George Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. This heritage listed church was built in 1845 and designed by Henry Robertson and Edmund Blacket in the Old Colonial Gothick Picturesque and Victorian Free Gothic styles. A shop with residence above is located alongside it on George Street and the clock tower at Central Railway Station can be seen in the distance.

Leichhardt, Presbyterian Church, hall


This former church hall, built in 1909, is located along Renwick Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. It is attached to the heritage listed former Leichhardt Presbyterian Church facing Marion Street, built in 1885 with a façade of Romanesque inspired details. The church functions ceased in 1980 and the buildings are now used as a child care centre.

Kingsgrove, Uniting Church

 
Kingsgrove Uniting Church is located on the corner of Kingsgrove Road and Moreton Street, in the southern suburb of Kingsgrove. It was originally the Kingsgrove Methodist Church. The Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.
