Woolloomooloo, Sculpture Walk


This sculpture was located along the boardwalk in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo, with Sydney Tower in the distance. 'Kin' was created by artist Edison Chen. The idea of the sculpture takes inspiration from Kintsugi, a Japanese style of art that uses gold, silver, or platinum to repair broken pottery. The Woolloomooloo Sculpture Walk is an annual exhibition of Australian contemporary sculpture which was here until May 30 2023, hosted by ARTPark Australia.

Earlwood, mosaic

This mosaic is one of three located on a wall of a supermarket along Clarke Street in the inner west suburb of Earlwood. It was created by artist Steven Vella with the help of Earlwood residents as part of the Multicultural Mosaics Project in 2001 with the theme "Unity, Respect, Peace". Moore Park, light rail tunnel

 
A couple of trams at the Moore Park light rail tunnel, on the corner of South Dowling Street and Devonshire Street, in the inner city suburb of Moore Park. The 500 metre tunnel runs underneath Moore Park for the CBD and South East Light Rail Service, made up of the L2 Randwick Light Rail line and L3 Kingsford Light Rail line which run from Circular Quay.

Rockdale, Gujaga Park, sculpture

This sculpture is located in Gujaga Park, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It features depictions of threatened species of animals in the state with their general name and scientific name. These are Australasian Bittern, Regent Honeyeater, Green and Golden Bell Frog, Australian Water Dragon and Painted Snipe.

Kogarah, Belgrave Court

"Belgrave Court" is a group of shops and offices, located on the corner of Belgrave Street and Railway Parade, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. This heritage listed building was built in 1912 in the Federation Anglo Dutch Style.

"Hurlingham" is a heritage listed house located along Union Street, in the inner west suburb of Tempe. It was built around 1876 in the Victorian style for solicitor Frederick Gannon.

Waverley, reservoir

 


This is one of the buildings which stands alongside the heritage listed water reservoir which is located along Paul Street, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. Waverley Reservoir No.1 was completed in 1887 and was the last of four reservoirs built to augment the Botany Swamps Scheme. The other three reservoirs were Crown Street Reservoir in 1859, Paddington Reservoir in 1864 and Woollahra Reservoir in 1880.

Erskineville, warehouse


This mural was on the side wall of former warehouse is located on the corner of Union Street and Iredale Street, just off King Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. It was created by artist Nic Green, aka Nico but was replaced by a new mural when the warehouse became a yoga and wellness centre.

The Rocks, restaurant

This heritage listed restaurant is located along George Street at The Rocks. It was built as a house and shop, designed by William Reynolds and built in 1838 in the Victorian Regency style. It was a butcher shop between 1869 and 1886 and then converted to an oyster saloon which operated with a wine bar from 1905. From 1922, the ground and first floor were tenanted by a number of manufacturing companies, customs agents and a newsagent. From 1943, the premises was used as an office and a workshop repairing musical instruments for a nearby retailer called "Harmony House" until 1965. The building was extensively renovated and opened as "Phillip's Foote" wine bar and restaurant in 1976.

The Rocks, The Russell Hotel

The Russell Hotel is located on the corner of George Street and Globe Street in The Rocks. This heritage listed building was built in 1887 in the Queen Anne style and operated as the Port Jackson Hotel until 1923. The ground floor had been used as a cafe for many decades and from 1933 provided accommodation on the upper floors when it became the Russell Private Hotel. The ground floor became a Japanese Bookshop in the 1980s but was converted back to a cafe in 1992 and then became a bar and restaurant. It is now known as The Russell Boutique Hotel but is currently closed for renovations.

The Rocks, gallery

 This heritage listed building, built in the Georgian Revival style architecture with Art Nouveau details is located along George Street at The Rocks. It was built in 1843 as the 'King's Head Hotel' and was later known as the 'Great Pacific Hotel' before it became the 'P & O Hotel' in 1884. It was used as a tea room in 1910 and a rest centre of the Salvation Army Naval and Military Home for military personnel on leave. The building was refurbished in 1928 and became an Ambulance Station until 1990. After the building was renovated it became the Ken Duncan Gallery, used by the Australian landscape photographer until 2015. The last tenant was a gelato shop which like many businesses permanently closed during the Covid 19 pandemic.

The Rocks, George Street


These restaurants and cafes along George Street in The Rocks have outdoor seating which extends beyond the footpath onto the road. The concrete safety bollards have been decorated with indigenous artwork. The alfresco dining which also reduced traffic was introduced in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic but due to its popularity has remained. The police station and Museum of Contemporary Art on the left and Sydney's newest skyscraper Salesforce Tower can be seen in the distance beside the EY Sweeney building.

Rockdale, Uniting Church


The former Rockdale Methodist Church is located along Bay Street, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. This heritage listed sandstone church was built in 1871, in the Victorian Gothic style. The entrance to the original chapel is on the left, which was built in 1858 and later extended to become the school and now is the church hall. The Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church in 1977.

Wolloomooloo, Finger Wharf


The Wolloomooloo Finger Wharf is located in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo. This former wool and cargo dock on Wolloomooloo Bay was built in 1915 and remained part of the working port until the 1970s. It was restored in the 1990s and redeveloped into a luxury hotel, apartments, commercial offices, restaurants and a marina. This view is from the promenade across the bay.

Darlinghurst, mural

A view of the flower wall and mural, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The flower wall which is located along Darlinghurst Road, above the William Street tunnel at Kings Cross, was decorated with rainbow colours for Sydney WorldPride 2023. 'Still Thriving' is a 40 metre mural by Dylan Mooney on the side of the Top of the Town apartment building, which is along Victoria Street and Darlinghurst Road. It depicts two young Indigenous men embracing each other with imagery of a rainbow ribbon and native wattle sprinkled across it. The heritage building on the corner is Darlinghurst Fire Station.

Barangaroo, Crown Sydney

Crown Sydney is a skyscraper in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. The building was designed by WilkinsonEyre and completed in 2020 and mainly comprises of a hotel, casino and residential apartments. It stands at 75 floors, making it the tallest building in Sydney and fourth tallest building in Australia. This view is from the boardwalk near Nawi Cove.

Sydenham, railway station

 
This tilework is at the Railway Road entrance of the railway station in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. Sydenham railway station is a junction for the T4 Illawarra, T8 South and T3 Bankstown railway lines. It opened on 15 October 1884 as Marrickville on the Illawarra line to Hurstville. It was renamed Sydenham on 19 January 1895 when the Bankstown line opened to Belmore and a new railway station was built closer to the centre of Marrickville. A new concourse was built in 2013 along with this covered entrance.

Museum of Contemporary Art, P.P.F. (Past-Present-Future) (Theme Day: Museums)

The Museum of Contemporary Art features temporary commissioned murals on the wall of the Circular Quay foyer. "P.P.F. (Past-Present-Future)" was created by Vincent Namatjira in 2021. The indigenous artist has assembled seven figures significant to his life and practice in a large-scale ‘heroes narrative’. The work is semi-autobiographical with each of the men represented on the wall having inspired him and remind him of who he is.
