This mosaic is one of three located on a wall of a supermarket along Clarke Street in the inner west suburb of Earlwood. It was created by artist Steven Vella with the help of Earlwood residents as part of the Multicultural Mosaics Project in 2001. The theme is "Unity, Respect, Peace" written in Greek, Arabic and Chinese. The others can be seen here and here.
It has an international feel to me, Jim. It is very well done.

ReplyDeleteThey've used the languages of Australia's biggest migrant groups. Greek, Arabic and traditional Chinese. There is also Italian and Vietnamese on another mural.
DeleteLovely project. I saw a cooking series that told of Italian immigrants in Australia. Totally surprised me! (My husband is Italian so it was doubly interesting). Enjoy your week!
