Anzac Bridge, sunset

These sunset colours over the inner west suburbs of Annandale and Leichhardt are viewed between the cables of the Anzac BridgeThe bridge was known as the Glebe Island Bridge when it opened in 1995. It was renamed the Anzac Bridge on Remembrance Day, 11th November 1998, to honour the servicemen and women who served in two world wars. The name is derived from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC).

  4. Spectacular capture J. When I first saw the thumbnail image, it looked like timber decking with a puddle on the planks! Enjoy your weekend

  6. Rarely do I see sunsets so red--so I'm envying you (just a bit)!

    WHERE RED ABIDES

    A day filled with scarlet, they say,
    Can make the sad heart skip and play;
    For where red abides,
    A little bird hides
    And sings every worry away.

  14. Such a fiery sunset, great image. Interesting, the former name of the bridge. Glebe is a word that recently entered my vocabulary.

  18. The cables certainly add interest to the beautiful sunset. I still think of it as the Glebe Bridge. Didn't it replace an old iron bridge or am I thinking of another?

  22. diane b, yes that's right. It is a replacement for the old Glebe Island Bridge, which remains beside it. The old bridge is a four lane swing span bridge which is much lower and is kept permanently open now for boats to pass through.

  25. A very fine image, J Bar!

    Americans tend not to be well-informed about the heroic role the ANZAC troops played both in World War I and World War II.

  33. Not only do you have an Anzac Day, you have an Anzac Bridge. I like your tribute to Remembrance Day this year. Mine was devoted to my daddy and his service in WWI. I do not want the weld to forget the service of our WWI veterans and family members though they all gone from us now. genie
