This electricity substation No.43 is located along Unwins Bridge Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydneham. This heritage listed building was built in 1913 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style, with Art Nouveau elements such as the style of lettering. Even power sub-stations were beautifully designed back then. The Municipal Council of Sydney logo, “MCS”, appears on the facade along with identification number “No 43” and the words "Electricity Sub-station" in relief, above the main doorway. An "Electricity Australia" sign and warning signs have been attached to the wall and roller shutter door.
J'aime beaucoup cette architecture...

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful piece of architecture...so vintage and so pretty in its simplicity. The new and modern are nice, but I am drawn to the simplistic old. genie

I like the logo at the top. My spouse, who worked in the power industry, said that some of those old stations were hazardous for the operator.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture. Thanks for sharing.

It doesn't do much for me. I wouldn't like it next to my house. But an interesting sign shot.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that logo terrific considering it is an electricity sub station.
ReplyDeleteI like the art nouveau font... cool!

I love a good Art Nouveau Sub Station, this is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteThis picture brings back childhood memories to me. As my father was an electrical engineer, we always lived near hydro electric stations in India. The buildings and the lettering were of the same style!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot.
