Mosman, shops
This heritage building is located on the corner of Prince Albert Street and Bradleys Head Road, in the lower north shore suburb of Mosman. This building containing shops and residences was built in 1908. It is an example of Federation architecture, in the Arts and Crafts style. The shopping strip has been declared a conservation area for the early twentieth century architecture.
This is a great building. The rods don't look like they were part of the original design.
ReplyDeleteEven more interesting than the last Mosman shops you photographed. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteJack, you're right about the rods. The awnings of most of the Federation era buildings in Mosman were originally column-supported.
ReplyDeleteThat must be a heavy awning to require all those rods.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they used them instead of columns?
But it is a pretty building.
Lesley, I think it was mostly done for aesthetic reasons at street level, when your walking along the footpath or driving along the road.
ReplyDeleteCool old building.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful building. It deserves to be a national treasure. I love the art and crafts style of architecture. It is so attractive. genie
ReplyDeleteVery nice building!
ReplyDeleteA lovely building - like all the detail work on the upper levels.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good cafe, did you go in?
ReplyDeletePeter, haven't been to that particular cafe but there are a lot good restaurants and cafes in Mosman.
ReplyDeleteA very lovely building.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if 1908 was there originally or just put there later on.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting architectural style.
Photo Cache, I'd say that the year was put on there at time of construction. There are many well-designed historic buildings around Sydney with year of construction on the facade, a trend which has been revived somewhat in recent years.
ReplyDeleteLove how you find and present all the wonderful conservation going on there.
ReplyDeleteWhile the signs are necessary in today's world I wish they weren't there. :)
Classic buildings. I like this part of Sydney even if it is very snooty.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the corner construction on this building...how it wraps around the street. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by this week. I appreciate your visit and taking time to leave me a comment. It's always a pleasure to have your company.
Very attractive old shops, with their turrets and towers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories;lived in Muston St. Mosman 30 odd years ago
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a good job of revealing the architecture of Mosman. I think it is a nice part of the city.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool looking building!
ReplyDeleteHah! Did not realise you had already covered Mosman. The similarity of Mosman and Haberfield is uncanny.
