Sydney Mint Museum, Noël Sydney

The Sydney Mint Museum along Macquarie Street featured these light projections, as part of the Noël Sydney Christmas Festival from 9 to 24 December 2022. The Noël Light Trail was along Macquarie Street, leading to the Royal Botanic Garden.

Macquarie Street, Noël Sydney

 
Noël Sydney was a Christmas Festival set in Macquarie Street and the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. The Noël Light Trail began at the Hyde Park Barracks on Macquarie Street, leading through a colonnade near the Conservatorium Gates and to a Digital Christmas Forest and Christmas Market in the Royal Botanic Garden.

Dior Boutique, Christmas

 The Dior Boutique on the corner of Castlereagh Street and King Street features elaborate Christmas decorations this year. The designer boutique spreads across the former Surrey Hotel on the corner, Culwulla Chambers fronting Castlereagh Street and Culwulla Chambers fronting King Street. Queen Victoria Building, Christmas Tree

MLC Centre, Christmas Tree

This Christmas Tree is located between two new fountains in the forecourt of the MLC Centre, a skyscraper which fronts Martin Place. The foyer and commercial areas have been undergoing renovations for the past few years and the building will now be just known as 25 Martin Place.

This statue of St Therese surrounded by flowers is in the grounds of St Therese's Catholic Church, located along Sutherland Street, in the eastern suburb of Mascot. Some festive cheer has been added with four solar powered Christmas Tree LED garden stakes.

Zetland, Green Square Library and Infinity

The main entrance to the underground Green Square Library is located along Botany Road and Zetland Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. The library and plaza were designed by Stewart Hollenstein in association with Stewart Architecture and built in 2018. Infinity is a 20-storey tower, above retail and restaurant space, on the corner of Botany Road and Bourke Street. It was designed by Koichi Takada and built in 2019.

Five Dock, shops and offices

This commercial building is located at the intersection of Ramsay Road, First Avenue and Great Northern Road, in the inner west suburb of Five Dock. This heritage listed building was built around 1920 in the Inter-War Style. The shops on the ground flour include a gelato cafe on the corner and the offices upstairs belong to a legal firm of Solicitors and Conveyancers.

Five Dock, police station

The Five Dock Police Station is located along Garfield Street, in the inner west suburb of Five Dock. This heritage listed building was built in 1913 in the Federation style and was originally the Five Dock Fire Station.

Five Dock, art

This is part of an artwork which appears on the side and back wall of a shop, on the corner of Thompson Lane and Garfield Street, in the inner west suburb of Five Dock. The collage is made up of historic photos of products and people from the butcher, delicatessen, bakery, green grocer and coffee shop in this suburb. Another part can be seen here.

Martin Place, Statue of James Martin

This statue of James Martin is located in Martin Place near Phillip Street. Despite his poverty, he did whatever it took to get an education, including walking and hitching the 20 kilometres from his cottage in Parramatta to Sydney College, then the colony's best school. Martin went on to become a journalist, editor, Attorney-General of NSW, Chief Justice of NSW and the Premier of New South Wales, which explains why Martin Place bears his name. It was sculpted by Alan Somerville and unveiled in 2020 and depicts James Martin as a boy, book of Homer/Ὅμηρος in hand and a school bag on his back, as an inspiration to young students.

Australia Square, Table of Love

'Table of Love' is a bronze sculpture located in the forecourt of the Australia Square Tower, on the corner of George Street and Curtin Place. It was created in 2022 by British and Australian artists, Gillie and Marc. The artists are best known for their beloved characters, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, who tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soul mates.

Newtown, shop

This commercial building is located along King Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. This contemporary style building was built between two Victorian Italianate style buildings with a shop on the ground floor and flats above. The shop is a restaurant and take away which lets customers build their own salads using their choices of a protein, vegetables, dressing and crunchy nut or cracker toppings.

This heritage listed shop is located on the corner of Burwood Road and Railway Parade, in the inner west suburb of Burwood. Built in the Federation style, it now houses a patisserie.

This mural is located along Railway Parade, in the inner west suburb of Burwood. It is painted on the wall of the elevated railway station and depicts local people in the nearby Burwood Park.

Kogarah, Anzac Memorial

The Anzac memorial stands in Kogarah Town Square, along Belgrave Street in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The sculpture commemorates the nurses and soldiers who served on the Greek Island of Lemnos during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 and 1916 during World War One, and the role of Lemnos in the campaign. Unveiled in 2017, the bronze statue of the injured soldier and the metal frame outline of a nurse was created by Takis Kozokos with the plaque created by Dr Ross Bastiaan.

Woolloomooloo, marina

These boats are moored at the marina which runs along the Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf, in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo. The redeveloped wharf in Woolloomooloo Bay, also known as the Finger Wharf, features a hotel, apartments and restaurants.

Wolloomooloo, Ovolo Hotel

The Wolloomooloo Finger Wharf is located in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo. This former wool and cargo dock on Wolloomooloo Bay was built in 1915 and remained part of the working port until the 1970s. It was restored in the 1990s and redeveloped into a luxury hotel, apartments, commercial offices, restaurants and a marina. This space between industrial conveyor-belt relics is used as a ballroom and function centre for the 5-star Ovolo Hotel and is currently featuring a public art exhibition.

Barangaroo, Watermans Cove

This view is from the boardwalk at Barangaroo, looking across Watermans Cove to two ferries passing each other arriving and departing from the Barangaroo ferry wharves. In the distance are the W Hotel at Cockle Bay, the Sofitel Hotel at Darling Harbour, the Australian National Maritime Museum and Pyrmont Wharves.

Canterbury, mural

This mural is on fences along Canterbury Road, in the inner west suburb of Canterbury. The fences, beside a cafe, borders the railway line near Canterbury railway station. The view is of the park and walkway beside the nearby Cooks River.

Tamarama, Coastal Walk

The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is a six kilometre walk with views of the Pacific Ocean. This location is down the stairs from Marks Park, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama, looking towards Bondi. The cliffs are covered in Spring wildflowers.

Ultimo, University of Technology Sydney, UTS Central

 UTS Central is on the campus of the University of Technology Sydney, on the corner of Broadway and Jones Street, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. Also known as UTS Building 2, the 17 floors of UTS Central contain the new Blake Library and scholarly Reading Room, student study spaces and a food court that opens onto Alumni Green. It also houses the Faculty of Engineering and IT and the Faculty of Law with trial courts and Moot Court. The building was completed in 2019 with the tower designed by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (FJMT) and the podium designed by Lacoste+Stevenson in association with DJRD. Ultimo, University of Technology Sydney, UTS Tower

 
UTS Tower is on the campus of the University of Technology Sydney, along Broadway in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. Also known as UTS Building 1, the 27 floors contain many of the administrative units of the university. It was completed in 1979 in the brutalist architectural style from a 1968 plan by Michael Dysart of the NSW Government Architect's Office. This view is from the back entrance which leads to Alumni Green.

Ultimo, University of Technology Sydney, Alumini Green, sign

 
This sign is located at the entrance to the Alumni Green at the University of Technology Sydney, off Jones Street in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. The Vicki Sara Building stands along one side and UTS Central with the Blake Library is on the other. The portal provides natural light to an underground library storage facility. The Library Retrieval System (LRS) is for lesser-used items from university's physical collection. The books and other items are stored in special bins and retrieved by fast-travelling robotic cranes, which can deliver requests to the library's service desk.

Ultimo, University of Technology Sydney, Vicki Sara Building

 
The Vicki Sara Building is on the campus of University of Technology Sydney, located along Thomas Street in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. It was designed by Durbach Block Jaggers in association with BVN Architecture and built in 2015. It was originally called the Faculty of Science and Graduate School of Health Building, but was renamed in recognition of long-serving UTS Chancellor and endocrinologist Vicki Sara. The UTS Tower and UTC Central can be seen behind it.

Bexley, Cluny Brae

"Cluny Brae" is a heritage listed house along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Bexley. It was designed in the Victorian Regency style and built in 1889 by John McLeod for his son Hector. The McLeod family were leading builders and involved in the refurbishment of the Queen Victoria Building and the construction of other Sydney landmarks. It was converted into a function centre in 1952 and renamed Victoria House, operating as a venue until 2014. It was renovated in 2019 and became a residential home again.

St Peters, mural

This mural has been painted on the facade of a commercial building along Campbell Street, in the inner west suburb of St Peters. It was created by Kim Siew and Nico. Unique Plaster produces ornate plaster mouldings for restoration and reproduction work.

Tamarama, Marks Park, memorial

The 'Bondi Memorial: Rise' is located in Marks Park, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama. It was designed by artist John Nicholson and installed in 2022 to honour the victims of the gay hate murders and violence in Sydney from the 1970s to 1990s. The stone terraces replicate the exact topography of the rock face strata of the cliffs below Marks Park where a number of gay men were thrown to their deaths. This memorial also serves to raise greater community awareness of the issue of LGBTQ hate crimes, promote the continuing need to pursue the truth and justice, and serve as a reminder of the importance of valuing and celebrating diversity in our community.

Tamarama, skywriting

A small plane was skywriting over Marks Park, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama during the 24th Sculpture by the Sea exhibition. The plane's acrobatics were breathtaking but the strong winds did not give the expelled smoke a chance to form a full message. This was presumably being filmed by a drone which was captured here in the smoke trail.

The 24th Sculpture by the Sea was located along the two kilometre coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama from 21 October to 7 November 2022. These sculptures were located in Marks Park, in the eastern suburb of Tamarama with a backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and Bronte. This is my final look at the exhibition for this year.
