The Galeries, art

This artwork is on Ground Floor and First Floor of The Galeries shopping centre, in the Citigroup Centre. It was created by Bradley Eastman, also known as Beastman, an artist whose work spans paintings, digital illustration, commercial projects and public mural artworks. The patterns guide you towards a large structural installation that you can walk through, immersing you in a ribbon of pattern. This festive-themed piece is designed to make you feel wrapped in the artwork, like a gift.

The Rocks, Mining Museum

 
This heritage listed building is a former electricity power station, mining museum and chemical laboratory, located between George Street and Hickson Road at The Rocks. This view is from the George Street side, with the abutment to the Sydney Harbour Bridge seen on the left. It was designed by the Government Architect, Walter Liberty Vernon in the Federation Warehouse style with Romanesque and Art Nouveau detailing. The electricity power station and workshops were constructed in the lower part of the building by 1902 with the mining museum, chemical laboratories and octagonal chimney stack in the upper levels of the building constructed by 1909. It became known as the Earth Exchange in 1990 but since 1996 it has been fitted out for office space.

Circular Quay, ship and ferry

A view of a cruise ship berthed at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, looking towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge from a Circular Quay ferry wharf. "Celebrity Edge" is an Edge-class cruise ship operated by Celebrity Cruises. The "Annabelle Rankin" is a 40m Twin-Deck Rocket Ferry operated by Captain Cook Cruises on Sydney Harbour. It was named Annabelle Rankin after the Australian politician and diplomat. She was the first woman from Queensland elected to parliament, the first woman federal departmental minister, and the first Australian woman to be appointed head of a foreign mission.

Circular Quay, Overseas Passenger Terminal

 
A view of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay, where many cruise ships dock in Sydney Harbour. This view is from Circular Quay Way with Quay Quarter Tower and Governor Phillip Tower in the distance. The Squire's Landing is a pub, brewhouse and restaurant on the ground floor.

Circular Quay, light rail stop

The Circular Quay Light Rail Stop is located at the northern end of the Central Business District on Alfred Street, between Pitt Street and Loftus Street. It is the final destination on the CBD and South East Light Rail service. These trams will soon be departing for the eastern suburb of Randwick and Kingsford. Quay Apartments is the residential building in the distance. Circular Quay railway station is on the left and the recently renovated AMP Building is on the right.

Cahill Expressway, Sydney Harbour (Theme Day: Photo of the Year)

Looking across the Cahill Expressway above Circular Quay Railway Station to Sydney Harbour. A cruise ship is moored at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and another is almost passing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A number of ferries are arriving and departing from the Circular Quay Ferry Wharves. This view is from the balcony at Cafe Sydney, which is a rooftop restaurant in Customs House at Circular Quay. I featured a similar photo during the year which was taken seconds earlier and can be seen here.
