St Mary's Cathedral, The Lights of Christmas

"The Lights of Christmas" was a light projection show on the façade of St Mary's Cathedral, on every night from 6th December until Christmas night 25th December. This is part of an animated sequence which showed images from the nearby Botanic Gardens and the concrete jungle of the city.

Strand Arcade, Christmas decorations

The Strand Arcade is a shopping arcade which runs between George Street and Pitt Street, built in 1891 in the Victorian architectural style.This year's Christmas decorations were inspired by native flowers. The giant blossoming eucalyptus branches feature green leaves, red budding flowers and golden gumnuts brought to life with cascading lights.

George Street, Christmas wreaths

A view of the giant illuminated Christmas wreaths which have been installed along George Street between King Street and Park Street. The street had been blocked with fencing and barriers for the past couple of years due tor major construction of a new light rail service with more space for pedestrians but reopened just before Christmas. This view extends to two skyscrapers in the distance along George Street, the HSBC Centre and World Tower at World Square.

The Rocks, Tales of Aussie Christmas

"Tales of Aussie Christmas" is a series of 12 bespoke Christmas installations around The Rocks area such as this one near the Suez Canal laneway. Each tells an interesting tale based on real Australian Christmas stories from history inside a box shaped like a Christmas tree.

This giant Christmas snow globe is located along George Street, beside First Fleet Park. It features a diorama of The Rocks cityscape including the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

This apartment block is located on the corner of Stanley Street and Yurong Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. It was built in the 1920s in the art deco architectural style.

Crows Nest Hotel

Crows Nest Hotel is located on the corner of Pacific Highway and Willoughby Road, in the northern suburb of Crows Nest. This heritage listed pub was built in the Free Classical architectural style.

North Sydney, Union Hotel

The Union Hotel is located on the corner of Pacific Highway and West Street, in the northern suburb of North Sydney. A hotel has been on this site since the 1870s but was redesigned by Prevost and Ancher and extensively rebuilt in 1938 in this heritage listed design, in the International architectural style.

North Sydney, shops

This row of shops and offices is located along the Pacific Highway, in the northern suburb of North Sydney. "The Cloisters Antiques" is the heritage listed shop in the middle built in the 1880s in the Victorian Free Gothic architectural style. The surrounding buildings built in later eras have either mimicked aspects of the building or have been built in sympathetic architectural styles.

Redfern, St Vincents de Paul Catholic Church

St Vincents de Paul Catholic Church is located along Redfern Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. This heritage listed church was designed by Sheerin & Hennessy and built in 1885 in the Victorian architectural style with additions by D.V. Healy made in 1902 in the Federation Gothic style.

Circular Quay, ferry

This ferry at Circular Quay ferry wharf is a new Emerald class ferry operated by Sydney Ferries which entered service on Sydney Harbour in 2017. It is named Bungaree for an Aboriginal Australian from the Broken Bay area, who was known as an explorer, entertainer and community leader. This view is from the walkway beside Cahill Expressway above Circular Quay railway station.

Willoughby, incinerator

The Willoughby Municipal Incinerator is located along Small Street, in the northern suburb of Willoughby. It was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Eric Nicholls and built in 1934 in the art deco architectural style. It housed the Australian-patented system of vertical top gravity feed (followed by drying prior to burning) incinerator developed by the Reverberatory Incinerator and Engineering Company (REICo). By the 1960s the Incinerator was closed and was saved from demolition following an active campaign by community groups. In 1982 it was converted to a restaurant and then in 1989 it was converted to office space. After it was damaged by fire, conservation works to restore the incinerator building began in 2008 with reuse as a community hall, artist studio and cafe.

Crows Nest, fire station

Crows Nest Fire Station is located on the corner of Shirley Road and Sinclair Street, in the northern suburb of Crows Nest. It was designed by E.L. Drew and built in 1907 in the Arts and Crafts architectural style.

Dulwich Hill, railway station

The platform at Dulwich Hill railway station, in the inner west suburb of Dulwich Hill. The station opened in 1895 as Wardell Road, when the Bankstown Line opened from Sydenham to Belmore. It was renamed Dulwich Hill in 1920 and the station buildings date from 1935.

This commercial building built in the art deco architectural style is located along Alexander Street, in the northern suburb of Crows Nest.

This street art along May Lane is on the back wall of a commercial property, in the inner city suburb of St Peters.

Botany, Uniting Church

Botany Uniting Church is located along Botany Road in the eastern suburb of Botany. The heritage listed church was built in 1902 in the Federation architectural style. It was a Methodist Church until 1977 when the Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia joined together to form the Uniting Church in Australia. The decorative gables above the windows have been removed an after the church was gutted by fire in 1984, damaged bricks along the roofline were replaced without a gable.

Ultimo, Powerhouse Museum

The Powerhouse Museum is located along Harris Street, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. The museum is mostly in the former Ultimo power station built in 1899 to power Sydney's electric tram system which closed in 1961 but this extension was added when the museum opened in 1988. It is part of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences and houses a collection of exhibits covering history, science, technology, design, industry, decorative arts, music, transport and space exploration.

Paddington, Olympic Sports Bar

The Olympic Sports Bar and Grill is located on the corner of Moore Park Road and Regent Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. The heritage listed hotel was built in 1877 in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style. It was extended in 1909 and in 1936 the building was sold to Tooheys when it was extended and altered to the design of Scott Green & Scott Architects and the name of the hotel was changed from Adelaide Hotel to Olympic Hotel. In 1956 the saloon bar was altered and in 2005 the ground floor external art deco tiling was removed.

Haymarket, Harry's Cafe De Wheels

This Harry's Cafe De Wheels is located along Hay Street, near the entrance to Capitol Square, at Haymarket. This franchise has operated in this area since 2004 and was the first franchise to open after the iconic original cafe at Woolloomooloo. Their speciality is a Harry's Tiger Pie which is a beef pie with mash potato, mushy peas and gravy.

Queen Victoria Building, sculptures

These domes and sculptures stand above the York Street entrance of the Queen Victoria Building, which houses retail shops, cafés, and restaurants. The Queen Victoria Building was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898 in the Romanesque architectural style and restored in 1986. The sculptures, created by William Priestly MacIntosh and installed in 1899, are: a male figure male figure representing Union with symbols of a United Australia, a female figure representing Peace with symbols of Literature and Science and a female figure representing Plenty holding the Cornucopia and showing symbols of the attendant Arts The sculptures above the George Street entrance can be seen here.

Paddington, terrace houses

These terrace houses are located on the corner of Regent Street and Leinster Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. They are two of a row of five built in the 1877 in the Victorian architectural style.

St Peters, street art

This street art is on a garage along May Lane belonging to a commercial property fronting King Street, in the inner city suburb of St Peters. A chimney stack at Sydney Park can be seen in the distance.

Enfield, Leigh Hall

"Leigh Hall" is located along Liverpool Road, in the western suburb of Enfield. It was built in 1886 in the Neo-Georgian Revival architectural style as the Methodist Theological College. It became the United Theological College in 1974 following a merger between Leigh College (Methodist), Camden College (Congregational) and St Andrews College (Presbyterian). From 1987 to 1998 it was used by the Australian College of Languages.It is now the Australian International Academy, an Islamic private school.

Circular Quay, walkway

A view of the walkway along the western side of Circular Quay, beside First Fleet Park at The Rocks. A cruise ship is moored at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This view is from the walkway beside Cahill Expressway above Circular Quay railway station and Circular Quay ferry wharves.

The Rocks, Unwin's Stores (Theme Day: Gift)

Unwin's Stores is a row of sandstone commercial buildings and residences above, located along George Street at The Rocks. They were built by Frederic Wright Unwin between 1843 and 1846 in the Colonial Georgian architectural style. The planter boxes along the footpath have been covered in Christmas wrapping to look like Christmas gifts.

Ultimo, Powerhouse Museum

These former tram sheds are located at the end of MacArthur Street, between Omnibus Lane and The Goods Line, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. The Ultimo Tram Depot opened in 1899 adjacent to the Ultimo Power Station and Darling Harbour railway line for tram services operating from Erskineville to Pyrmont and Ryde. The tram sheds were converted to offices in 1981 as part of the Powerhouse Museum (Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences) development.

Haymarket, hotel

The entrance to "The Ultimo", a boutique hotel along Ultimo Road, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. This heritage listed building was designed by George McRae and built in 1910 in the Federation Free architectural style. It was a purpose built market stores building opposite Paddy's Market, originally the vegetable market.

Centennial Park, houses

These semi-detached houses are located along Cook Road in the eastern suburb of Centennial Park. The heritage listed houses were built in the Federation Queen Anne architectural style.

Erskineville, warehouse

This former warehouse is located on the corner of Union Street and Iredale Street, just off King Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. The mural covers the facade and side wall of this building which is now used as a yoga and wellness centre.

St Therese Catholic Church was built in 1949 and is located along Napier Street, in the eastern suburb of Dover Heights.
