Haymarket, McKell Building

The McKell Building is bounded by George Street, Rawson Place, Pitt Street and Barlow Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. This 23-level tower was built as a state government office building in 1979 in the Brutalist style. It was named after Sir William John McKell, GCMG, QC who was the 12th Governor-General of Australia from 1947 to 1953 and had previously been Premier of New South Wales from 1941 to 1947. Sydney Town Hall, York Street

Wilson and completed in 1889 in the Grand Victorian Second Empire style. The skyscrapers rising above are the HSBC Centre along George Street and Lumiere along Bathurst Street.

York Street, Scripture Union House


Scripture Union House is a commercial building along York Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed former warehouse was built in 1905 in the Federation Warehouse style. It was originally built for W.S. Friend & Co, iron merchants and ironmongers. From 1914 it was leased and then bought by Arthur Pringle Stewart, known for Akubra Hats. In 1967 it was transferred to the Scripture Union Children's Special Mission and Interschool Christian Fellowship and the building was altered in 1968 by architects Hely Bell & Horne.

Sydenham, General Gorden Hotel


The General Gorden Hotel is located bounded by Swain Street, Burrows Avenue and Gleeson Street, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. The original pub was built on this site in 1885 and named for General Charles Gordon, who had died in the defence of Khartoum in January 1885 and was commemorated all over the British Empire as a heroic martyr. This larger hotel was designed by Sidney Warden in 1932, in the Georgian Revival for Tooth & Co Ltd.

Sydenham, mural

Kyeemagh, market gardens


The Kyeemagh Market Gardens are located on the corner of Bestic Street and Occupation Road, in the southern suburb of Kyeemagh. This heritage listed area is believed to have been occupied by market gardeners since 1892. From the 1950s, the gardeners were Italian and Maltese and since the 1980s have been Chinese market gardeners.

Arncliffe, railway station


A train on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line departs Arncliffe railway station, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. This heritage listed station was built in 1884 as part of the Illawarra Line from Redfern to Hurstville. The Tangara or T set trains are a class of electric multiple units that entered service between 1988 and 1995.

Rockdale, mural

This is part of an extensive mural along the walls of the walkways and travelators leading from the underground car park to Rockdale Plaza shopping centre, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The mural was created by Joe Whyte in 2022 and depicts historic moments and landmarks from the local area. This depicts Norfolk Pine Trees along the beach, near the former pier in Brighton-Le-Sands.

George Street, theatre

 
The heritage listed former Plaza Theatre is bounded by Wilmot Street, George Street and Central Street. It was designed by Eric Heath and built in 1930 in the Spanish baroque style as a 2000 seat cinema for the Hoyts Group. It now houses a McDonald's fast food restaurant, shops and the Star Bar pub which was formerly a Planet Hollywood. The CBD and South East Light Rail Service runs along George Street with trams on the L2 Randwick Light Rail line and L3 Kingsford Light Rail line from Circular Quay via Central

This building which housed the Lutheran Church Centre is located along Valentine Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. The Trinity Lutheran Church operated on the ground floor with offices on the upper level until 2023 but is now home to a coffee shop.

Rockdale, mural

Scots Presbyterian Church Sydney

 
The Scots Presbyterian Church Sydney is bounded by Margaret Street, York Street and Jamison Street. The original heritage listed, six storey building, built in 1929, was designed by Rosenthal, Rutledge and Beattie in the Inter War Gothic style. The high rise apartment building above was built in 2005 and was designed by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer.

Reiby Place, Patchwork of Light

 

"Patchwork of Light" is an artwork which was installed on the side of a building along Reiby Place in 2013. It consists of an array of ten brightly coloured light boxes emblazoned with figures and phrases in the Sydney indigenous language and English bringing Aboriginal, European, political and sporting histories to life. It was created by Lara Schnitger and was developed with Wiradjuri/Yuin elder Aunty Bronwyn Penrith, whose journey has been dedicated to reclaiming the culture of and respect for Aboriginal women. Zetland, sculpture (Theme Day: Cyclists)

"While I Live I Will Grow" is an installation of living artwork on the site of the former South Sydney Hospital, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. It was created by Maria Fernanda Cardoso and consists of Queensland bottle trees and a sculpture of sandstone blocks arranged in pairs, one on top of another, in a spiral. A cyclist has abandoned their share bike here.
