Eveleigh, Carriageworks, art

CarriageWorks is a multi-venue arts centre in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. The Carriageworks sign structure has been used to create a unique neon artwork called "Remember Me" by Indigenous artist Reko Rennie. The building behind it is Yaama Dhinawan, a hospitality college specialising in indigenous culture and cuisine, at this training, community and function centre. Yaama Dhinawan means Hello Emu, and an indigenous mural of an emu has been painted on the wall.

Rookwood, cemetery

 Wild flowers grow amongst the graves in the old Anglican section of Rookwood Necropolis, in the western suburb of Rookwood.

Parramatta River, John Whitton Bridge

A ferry on the Parramatta River has just departed the Olympic Park Wharf and is heading past navigation marks towards the John Whitton Bridge.

Pyrmont, Johnstons Bay, sunset

A sunset view across Johnstons Bay to Rozelle from the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. A 'pole garden' has been created from the pylons and remnants of an old wharf beside Pirrama Park.

Sandringham, Lady Robinsons Beach

This entrance to Lady Robinsons Beach on the shore of Georges River at the mouth of Botany Bay, is from Riverside Drive near Waldron Street in the southern suburb of Sandringham.

Turrella, railway station

The entrance to Turrella railway station from Reede Street, in the southern suburb of Turrella. The station opened in 1931 when the East Hills line opened from Tempe to East Hills. It is now served by Sydney Trains T8 Airport & South Line services. The former industrial warehouses and factories nearby have been redeveloped into high rise apartments in recent years.

Stanmore, railway station

A view of Stanmore railway station platform 3, in the inner west suburb of Stanmore. The heritage listed station was built in 1855, as part of the Main Suburban Line from Redfern to Parramatta. Today it is served by Sydney Trains T2 Inner West & Leppington line.

Marrickville, mural

 This mural is on the side of a warehouse on the corner of Chapel Street and Victoria Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. It was created by street artist Brad Robson.

Guildford, St Mary's Anglican Church

St Mary's Anglican Church is located on the corner of Guildford Road and Bolton Street, in the western suburb of Guildford. This heritage listed church was built in 1937 in the Gothic style.

Guildford, railway station

The entrance to Guildford railway station from Military Road, in the western suburb of Guildford. This heritage listed railway station was opened in 1876 but the footbridge and this entrance were built in 2002. It is served by Sydney Trains T2 Inner West & Leppington line and T5 Cumberland line services.

Pyrmont, Johnstons Bay, sunset

A sunset view across Johnstons Bay to Rozelle from the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. The pylons and remnants of an old wharf have been retained as a 'pole garden', beside Pirrama Park.

Annandale, North Annandale Hotel

North Annandale Hotel is located on the corner of Johnston Street and Booth Street, in the inner west suburb of Annandale. A Victorian Style pub was originally built on this site in 1878 and was replaced by this Art Deco Style hotel in 1938 and listed by the Australian Institute of Architects in the Register of Significant 20th Century buildings.

Wentworth Point, school

 

Wentworth Point Public School is located on the corner of Burroway Road and Hill Road, in the western suburb of Wentworth Point. This sports car parked along Hill Road matches the colour scheme of the contemporary school building which was built in 2017.

Ryde, Wind Vanes

Wind Vanes is an artwork in Ryde Wharf Reserve, in the north western suburb of Ryde. The reserve is on the shore of the Parramatta River near Ryde Bridge. The artwork was created in 2008 by Jane Cavanough and Graham Bartholomew using tallow wood, galvanised steel and copper to create a wind responsive work. The three tapered poles are topped with a carved rowing boat, referencing the marine history of the area. The poles arise out of a decorative mosaic paving with a marine theme created by Indigenous artists Adrina Khobane and Rebecca Jones.

Hurstville, sculpture and mural

The Miles Franklin statue is located on the corner of MacMahon Street and Dora Street, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. Miles Franklin, best known for her classic Australian novel “My Brilliant Career”, lived and worked in the Hurstville area. This colourful mural was created in 2020 by artist Mandy Schoene-Salter, also known as MAN.De and replaces a former mural which depicted scenes from the life of Miles Franklin.

Sydney Olympic Park, war memorial

 This war memorial located in the flower garden, on the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Sarah Durack Avenue, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. "There But Not There" are six foot tall Tommy Soldier silhouette sculptures which were created to commemorate the centenary of the end of Wold War 1, on 11 November 2018.

Sydney Olympic Park, Australia Towers

Australia Towers are two apartment buildings along Australia Avenue, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. Australia Towers​ I and Australia Towers II were built in 2015 and were the first residential development in the former Sydney Olympic Games precinct.

Sydney Olympic Park, Southee Complex

 The Southee Complex is located on the corner of Showground Road and Grand Parade, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The complex houses Exhibition Halls 5 & 6 of the Sydney Showgrounds, a purpose built venue for the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Sydney Olympic Park, Abattoir Heritage Precinct

This former gatehouse in the Abattoir Heritage Precinct is on the corner of Herb Elliott Avenue and Showground Road, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It was designed by Walter Liberty Vernon and built in 1915 in the Federation style. It is now used as a visitor information centre. The Avenue is a contemporary office building across the road built in 2015.

Sydney Olympic Park, amenities building

This amenities building is located on the corner of Sarah Durack Avenue and Edwin Flack Avenue, in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. This is one of three structures in red, blue and yellow, designed by Neil Durbach, Camilla Block and David Jaggers and constructed in 1999 for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games.

Leichhardt, mural

This mural is on the wall of the Leichhardt North Light Rail Stop​, in the inner city suburb of Leichhardt. It was created by notable graffiti artist Phibs.

Ryde, The Public Cross, monument

 
The Public Cross is a monument located in the cemetery beside St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, located along Charles Street in the north western suburb of Ryde. The public cross was imported from France by the Marist Fathers, who were French themselves and were the early pastors of the church. It is believed to have been made in a unique French style.

Putney, Kissing Point, pontoon

A Captain Cook Cruises ferry makes its way past the pontoon at Kissing Point along the north shore of the Parramatta River, in the north western suburb of Putney. Rivendell School, formerly the Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital, stands on the southern shore, in the western suburb of Concord West.

Sydenham, railway station

Sydenham railway station is a junction for the T4 Illawarra, T8 East Hills and T3 Bankstown railway lines, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It opened on 15 October 1884 as Marrickville on the Illawarra line to Hurstville. It was renamed Sydenham on 19 January 1895 when the Bankstown line opened to Belmore and a new railway station was built closer to the centre of Marrickville.

Chippendale, signpost sculpture

 This is one of two signpost sculptures which stand in the middle of indoor gardens in Central Park Mall, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. It is made up of copper pots which direct you to the location of the eateries: Outdoor in the Lower Ground atrium and Indoor in the Level 2 food court. Sydenham, art

Sydenham Green is a recreational area which has been created around Railway Road, in the inner west suburb of Sydenham. It was created in 1999 after over 150 homes were acquired and demolished by the Federal Government when aircraft noise from the third runway at Sydney Airport made the area uninhabitable. This artwork in the middle of the park depicts a typical lounge room from one of those lost houses. It features a giant doorway, fireplace mantle with adornments including a doily and hanging mirror, an oversized black lamp shade and a coffee table with a giant tea pot and cup. The other half of the room can be seen here.

Ryde, St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church

St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is located on the corner of Victoria Road and Charles Street, in the north western suburb of Ryde. This heritage listed building consists of the original 1857 Victorian Gothic style church designed by A.W.N. Pugin and the extension designed by Fowell & McConnell architects.
