George Street, Town Hall light rail stop

 
This tram has stopped at the Town Hall light rail stop along George Street, viewed from Town Hall Square. The art deco building in the background is the former Morley Johnsons furnishings retailer which operated at this site from 1906 to 1964.

St Andrew's Cathedral

St Andrew's Cathedral is located on the corner of George Street and Bathurst Street. This view of the cathedral church of the Anglican Church of Australia is from Town Hall Square. The heritage listed building was originally designed by James Hume, with the nave built in 1837. Edmund Blacket took over the design in 1846 in the Victorian Academic Gothic style and completed it in 1868. A view of the main entrance can be seen here and here.

Bexley, fire station

 The former Bexley Fire Station, located on the corner of Forest Road and Queen Victoria Street, in the southern suburb of Bexley. The heritage listed building was built in the Federation Arts and Crafts style but later redeveloped for residential use with additional town houses at the side and rear.

Earlwood, mosaic

This mosaic is located on a wall of a supermarket along Clarke Street in the inner west suburb of Earlwood. It was created by artist Steven Vella with the help of Earlwood residents as part of the Multicultural Mosaics Project in 2001. The theme is "Unity, Respect, Peace" written in Vietnamese and Italian. Undercliffe, playground

These planter boxes are located at the entrance of a playground in Gough Whitlam Park, in the inner west suburb of Undercliffe. They are shaped like little boats with a waterline which is a suitable theme for the nearby billabong and river. The walkway has been made to look like a boardwalk on a waterway which has fish in it.

Undercliffe, billabong

Looking across a billabong along the Cooks River from the boardwalk in Gough Whitlam Park, in the inner west suburb of Undercliffe. A billabong is an Australian term for an oxbow lake.

Newtown, shop

 
This former workshop and warehouse is located along King Street in the inner city suburb of Newtown. It was built in 1889 for James Castle & Sons Art Metal Workers, who were brassfounders and ironworkers. Gould's Book Arcade was located at this site from 1989 to 2018 but the building has remained vacant since. The new and used book shop and newsagency bought and sold books, magazines, videos, vinyl records, cassettes, CDs and memorabilia. Bob Gould had previously run the Third World Bookshop in the city since 1967. These days they have a smaller shop near the New Theatre.

Newtown, shops

The Emily Buildings are located on the corner of King Street and Queen Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. The row of shops with flats above were built around 1888 in the Victorian style. This photo was taken in 2015 so even though the shop tenants have changed since then, the heritage features remain.

Sydney Opera House

 
The Sydney Opera House stands on the end of Bennelong Point between Farm Cove and Circular Quay. It was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and formally opened in 1973. This view across Sydney Harbour is from the north shore suburb of Milsons Point.

Surry Hills, shop

 
This corner shop with office space above is on the corner of Crown Street and Devonshire Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This Victorian style building is now used as a laundry and dry cleaner below and office space above but it had previously been home to a beautician as seen here.

Milsons Point, ferry wharf

This ferry wharf on Sydney Harbour is located in the north shore suburb of Milsons Point. It is serviced by Sydney Ferries which provide regular services from Circular Quay and Darling Harbour to other suburbs. The Sydney Opera House can be seen in the distance.

Sydney Olympic Park, light towers

These light towers run along Olympic Boulevarde at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay. Installed for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, each tower features a commemorative plaque for one of the cities that have previously held Summer Olympic Games in the modern era from the first Olympics in Athens 1898 to Paris 1900 & 1924 and Sydney 2000. This tower in the foreground is dedicated to Melbourne 1956, the other Australian city to host the games.

Sydney Olympic Park, Stadium Australia, Women's World Cup

Stadium Australia is in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. It was originally built in 1999 as the Sydney Olympic Stadium for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. It has also been commercially branded as Telstra Stadium, ANZ Stadium and Accor Stadium. The stadium is hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the soccer tournament which is taking place from 20 July to 20 August 2023, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Australia has made it to the semi-finals for the first time and will be playing against England tonight. The 'Forest of Poles' in the foreground is the 'Games Memories' sculpture.

Sydney Olympic Park, Stadium Australia, Women's World Cup

Inside Stadium Australia, which is located in the western suburb of Sydney Olympic Park. The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is the soccer tournament, which is taking place from 20 July to 20 August 2023, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. This was during the national anthems before the quarter final match between England and Colombia. For the first time, Australia has made it to the semi-finals and will be playing here against England on Wednesday night.

Barrack Place Arcade, bollard

This is one of the painted bollards located in Barrack Place Arcade, which connects Kent Street to Clarence Street below the Barrack Place Tower building. "Ngallowah Dayala - Come here and sit down, let’s talk together" was created by indigenous artists Trevor Eastwood and Jason Douglas from Dalmarri.

Darling Harbour, sculpture

The Western Distributor flyovers are located beside Cockle Bay at Darling Harbour. This sculpture of a snowflake was part of the Cool Yule winter festival in 2014.

Sydney Park, pond

Looking across a pond in Sydney Park, a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. The former brickworks here have been transformed into parkland and wetlands. Stormwater is collected and recycled from surrounding suburban streets to provide constant running water in the wetlands.

Cooks River, canal

This stormwater canal from Cahill Park links to the Cooks River, in the southern suburb of Wolli Creek. The Tempe Recreation Reserve is in the distance.

Eveleigh, Engine Shop

The entrance to the former Locomotive Workshops, part of the former Eveleigh Railway Yards along Locomotive Street, in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. The signage piece features three large sculptural drums inspired by train driving wheels, consisting of weathered corten steel with a black welded wire mesh used as planters.The heritage listed Engine Shop was built in 1907 as a workshop to construct new locomotive engines. It now houses the National Innovation Centre, an entrepreneurial hub which provides laboratory space where start-up company dreams can become reality.

Eveleigh, Locomotive Workshop, shop

The heritage listed Locomotive Workshop is part of the former Eveleigh Railway Yards, located along Locomotive Avenue in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. It was built in 1877, consisting of 16 bays originally used for one or more trades required to repair or manufacture locomotives and their components. It is now being redeveloped into commercial and retail space. The space in front of Bays 1 is now an Anita Gelato shop. A view of the building before the redevelopment can be seen here.

Eveleigh, Locomotive Workshop, substation

The heritage listed Locomotive Workshop is part of the former Eveleigh Railway Yards, located along Locomotive Avenue in the inner city suburb of Eveleigh. It was built in 1877, consisting of 16 bays originally used for one or more trades required to repair or manufacture locomotives and their components. It is now being redeveloped into commercial and retail space. The substation in front of Bays 5 and 6 has been covered in artwork which lights up at night.

Marrickville, art

This indigenous artwork is on the roller door of a warehouse along Sydenham Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. The mural can only be viewed after hours, when the roller door is shut.

Martin Place, Women’s World Cup

A giant replica of the official match ball for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is located in Martin Place. The soccer tournament, which is taking place from 20 July to 20 August 2023, is jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The 'Oceaunz' name comes from a combination of Oceania, Australia and New Zealand.

Barangaroo, Exchange Place

The lift, stairs and escalators at the end of Exchange Place, in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo, lead up to the Sussex Street Bridge. The pedestrian bridge over Sussex Street links to Napolean Plaza and Wynyard Walk. The versatile sign post features indigenous art.

Quay Quarter Tower

Quay Quarter Tower is located along Bridge Street, between Young Street and Phillip Street near Circular Quay. The building in its original form was known as the AMP Centre which was built in 1976 and  consisted of 45 floors. The structure underwent a redevelopment designed by Peddle Thorp & Walker, which increased its height, width and modernised the entire form and design. It reopened as the Quay Quarter Tower in 2022 with 54 floors.

Rockdale, railway station

Rockdale railway station is on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. This view is of Platform 4 and Platform 5 from Platform 3. The railway station opened in 1884 on the line from Redfern to Hurstville.

Australian Museum, William Street

These buildings along William Street are part of the Australian Museum in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The original Barnet Wing with an entrance along College Street was built in the 1880s in the neo-classical style is partly seen here on the right. The Collections and Research Building on the left was completed in 2008 and the Parkes-Farmer Wing in the centre was completed in 1963.

Bexley, Cluny Brae (Theme Day: Garden)

 
"Cluny Brae" is a heritage listed house along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Bexley. It was designed in the Victorian Regency style and built in 1889 by John McLeod for his son Hector. The McLeod family were leading builders and involved in the refurbishment of the Queen Victoria Building and the construction of other Sydney landmarks. It was converted into a function centre in 1952 and renamed Victoria House, operating as a venue until 2014. It was renovated in 2019 and became a residential home again.
