Sydney Tower rises above Westfield Sydney shopping centre, which was previously known as Centrepoint. This view is from the corner of Market Street and George Street. Myer Department store is on the left corner with the Swissôtel rising above it and the Gowings building is on the right corner.

Concord, substation

This electricity substation No.246 is located along Brays Road, in the inner west suburb of Concord. This heritage listed building was built in 1929 in the Stripped Classical style by the Municipal Council of Sydney.

Woolloomooloo, sculpture

"Telepath" by Bruce Radke is a sculpture which was part of Sculpture On the Wharf, an outdoor exhibition at the Finger Wharf and along the promenade in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo, with Garden Island dockyard, Woolloomooloo Marina and the Finger Wharf as a backdrop.

Haymarket, The Exchange

The Exchange is a six storey building located along Little Pier Street at Darling Square, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. It was designed by Japanese architecture firm, Kengo Kuma & Associates and was completed in 2019. Wrapped in over 20 kilometres of timber ribbons, the unique spiral-like building gives the appearance of a hive. Darling Square Library is spread over two floors and a childcare facility spans over two floors. The ground floor houses a food hall, the mezzanine a restaurant and the rooftop has a bar.

The Garden Bar was a pop-up bar which was located on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera house in summer. I think it was a great idea which should be revived.

Queen Victoria Building, Lunar New Year, Rat

This installation is in the central atrium of the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) and has been created for the Sydney Lunar Festival. There are five gold rats hanging from the historic dome, lowering themselves down to a gold piece of cheese, in celebration of the Year of the Rat.

This community street library is located along Hudson Street, in the inner west suburb of Lewisham. It allows people to borrow books for free, which can either be returned or exchanged for another book.

Darling Harbour, Dodecalis Luminarium

'Dodecalis Luminarium' is a large-scale inflatable sculpture temporarily located in Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, for the Festival of Sydney. Created by Architects of Air, the luminarium is constructed of translucent vinyl and features enormous air-filled domes and mazes inspired by natural forms, geometric solids, and Islamic and Gothic architecture. The creation expands on the geometry of a dodecahedron, with three dodecadomes joined by a web of tunnels, awash in intense, neon-bright natural light.

Circular Quay, light rail stop

The Circular Quay Light Rail Stop is located at the northern end of the Central Business District on Alfred Street, between Pitt Street and Loftus Street, beside Circular Quay railway station. It is the final destination on the CBD and South East Light Rail service, which opened in December 2019. These trams will soon be departing for the eastern suburb of Randwick and Chalmers Street at Central railway station, at the southern end of the Central Business District.

Alexandria, Sydney Park, pond

Sydney Park is a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. The former brickworks were transformed into parkland and four cascading wetlands which attract many animals and birds. This view across one of the ponds is towards the chimney stacks at the north-west corner of the park, near St Peters.

EY Sweeney building

The EY Sweeney building is located along George Street, viewed here from Harrington Street, beside Grosvenor Place. Sweeney Research joined Ernst & Young to become EY Sweeney in Australia in 2014. This 40 storey building was designed by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp and built in 2015.

This floral display which forms the words "Bite Me" is located near the Queen Elizabeth II Gates at Royal Botanic Gardens to promote "Plants with Bite", a display of carnivorous plants in The Calyx exhibition space.

Sydney Opera House, ferry

The Golden Grove is a First Fleet Class ferry acquired in 1986 and is part of the fleet that operates on the Inner Harbour. It was named Golden Grove, after one of eleven ships of the First Fleet that sailed to Australia in 1787. It's seen here making its way past the Sydney Opera House heading towards the Circular Quay ferry terminal.This view is from the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

This fast ferry has departed from the Circular Quay ferry wharves and is making its way past the Bennelong Apartments towards the Sydney Opera House. My Fast Ferry is a privately owned company which provides ferry services from the northern beaches suburb of Manly to Circular Quay and Darling Harbour.

Commonwealth Bank, sculpture

This sculpture is on the facade of the heritage listed Commonwealth Bank Building, bounded by George Street, Market Street and York Street. This sandstone panel by Gerald Lewers on the York Street facade was created in 1956, the same year that the building was completed. It symbolises the Federation of Australia's six states, with state symbols which also appear in the Australian coat of arms: Western Australia - black swan, South Australia piping shrike, Victoria - Southern Cross, Tasmania - lion passant, New South Wales - St. George's cross and stars, Queensland - Maltese cross.

Birchgrove, wharf

Birchgrove Wharf is at the end of Louisa Road, in the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. It is also known as the Yurulbin Point Wharf and previously known as Longnose Point wharf. This pontoon ferry wharf on the Parramatta River was built in 2018. It is serviced by Sydney Ferries on the Inner Harbour Services between Circular Quayand Cockatoo Island.

Myer Department Store, Swissôtel

The Myer Department Store is bounded by George Street, Market Street and Pitt Street. The heritage listed group of seven buildings includes this building on the corner of Market Street and Pitt Street. This Pitt-Market building is the oldest building in the group, while the original "Farmer & Co" Department Store was built along George Street in 1930. In 1976 the name of the store was changed to Myer but in 1983 it was acquired by Grace Bros. It was rebranded under the Myer name again in 2004. After a major refurbishment in 1999, the flagship Myer store occupies five levels, above two levels of the Sydney Central Plaza shopping centre, now part of Westfield Sydney. The Swissôtel Sydney and Tower Apartments sit above the development.

"Seaview" is a heritage listed terrace house located along Rae Street, in the eastern suburb of Randwick. Built in 1906 it is a late example of the Victorian style with strong Queen Anne influence.

Sydney Opera House, New Year's Eve

The theme for New Year's Eve celebrations on the northern forecourt of the Sydney Opera House this year was "Party of the Decades" with Australian and international artists performing hit songs from across the past six decades. The lights on the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background were synchronised to match the colours and performances on stage.

Clovelly Bay (Theme Day: Photo of the Year)

A swimmer contemplates the rough ocean waves in Clovelly Bay just before jumping in for a swim from Tom Caddy Point, in the eastern suburb of Clovelly. I featured a similar photo during the year which was my favourite and can be seen here, but this one is at a slightly different angle, showing the waves crashing on the rocks even higher.
