The 'Bike Bike' was a temporary sculpture by Alisdair Nicol in Martin Place, near Macquarie Street. The sculpture was a 12 metre high Penny Farthing bicycle constructed from used and recycled bicycles, in such a way that they could be reused after the installation period. It was installed for the Art & About Sydney festival in 2010 and it challenged us to think about transport and the implications for our environment.
It's a fantastic construction Jim, glad they decided to make it a permanent feature. You couldn't have found a more perfect subject for the theme :)
ReplyDeleteNot actually permanent, Grace. The bikes were still functional after the art display was dismantled.
DeleteInteresting take on the bicycle theme!
ReplyDeleteWow! Very impressive, Jim. Penny farthing, that's the term I was looking for. I've got one in my post when it goes live.
ReplyDeleteAmazing place !
ReplyDeleteGreat one from the archives. Very cool artwork.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I don't think my feet would quite reach the pedals on that bike Jim.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to see a bike as a subject for art.
ReplyDeleteNow, a human figure in here, Jim, would have assisted with the size of the sculpture. My poor brain is still thinking Alice in Wonderland, and finds it hard to "see" if the big bike is big or thes mall bikes are small.
ReplyDeleteVery cool sculpture.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good one.
ReplyDeleteThe most fantastic bike I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteA bike of bikes. Disappointed that it isn't there - they should have thought about making it permanent.
ReplyDeleteNo question that your shot is all about bicycles...wonderful!
ReplyDeleteNice one,a good place to put up unused bicycle.
ReplyDeleteDelicious! Arianna
