Waverley, reservoir

This is one of the buildings which stands alongside the heritage listed water reservoir which is located along Paul Street, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. Waverley Reservoir No.1 was completed in 1887 and was the last of four reservoirs built to augment the Botany Swamps Scheme. The other three reservoirs were Crown Street Reservoir in 1859, Paddington Reservoir in 1864 and Woollahra Reservoir in 1880.

  4. A beautiful building it is. Is that barbed wire on the roof?

    1. Yes, I'm guessing they've had trouble with people climbing up on the roof.

  5. How clever to understand back in the 1850s that the population was growing but the rainfall was not. I hope the four reservoirs successfully served Sydney then.
