When the Star City Casino first opened in Sydney in 1995, as Sydney's only legal casino, it operated out of one of old wharves at Pyrmont. Later, it relocated to this purpose-built facility that features the casino, a hotel, theatre, nightclubs, bars, restaurants and a shopping arcade.
Haven't been down there in years. Not terribly impressed by the casino itself.
ReplyDeleteI was in two minds about whether I should feature this. In the end, I thought I need to feature the good along with the sometimes ugly parts of Sydney. This was probably a good time to do it because I've just covered the nearby Pyrmont wharves that they were associated with and a major redevelopment is about to begin here which will probably eradicate the few attractive features of this development.
ReplyDeleteMajor redevelopment in what way? The new lite rail line?
ReplyDeleteThe Growers Market is very close to here.
I feature the ugly parts of our city all the time. It is what appeals to me.
They will build another hotel and expanding the retail and restaurant areas. I think the aesthetics will also change with plans for a new entrance on the harbourside which means that the elaborate stairways, waterfall fountains and palm trees will probably be lost.
ReplyDeleteIt is so Las Vegas ...
