Marrickville, cafe

This curious mural appears on the side of a cafe, on the corner of Illawarra Road and Grove Street, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville.

  1. Clever how it appears to be whizzing down the slope Jim.

  4. I really like street art and I love how it looks as if it's racing down the street at that slight angle too. Great shot! - Tasha

  5. cafes are popping all over the place. I like my neighbourhood cafe, they keep the coffee grids for my garden.

  6. Public murals are ambivalent, I think. Half the population doesn't mind at all. The other half think art should be limited to private spaces.

  7. It reminds me of a specific animation... there was a movie in the early 90s called Cool World, part live action, part animation. The work has that kind of anarchic feel to it.

  9. An unusual mural. I wonder if this is a popular biking area. I thought this becuase of the bike leaning on the post on the left.

    1. Yes, it is actually. I caught a few cyclists on the road in another shot but used this shot which captured more of the sky too.

  13. I enjoy murals! In downtown Denver many are painted on the sides of privately owned buildings. Especially in LoDo (lower downtown) where the baseball stadium sits. Often, murals are painted in regard to the Colorado Rockies MLB team. In my hometown of Pueblo, Colorado, on the banks of the Arkansas River many murals are painted. It adds bright colors to the concrete by the river. This one you share is quite interesting. A bit quirky. I love art so enjoy it in must all forms. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Someone in the cafe must be a bicycle enthusiast. He looks like the essence of speed. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
