5 Martin Place

This office building is part of a 2015 redevelopment of the former Commonwealth Trading Bank Building on the corner of Martin Place and Pitt Street. This side of the 19-storey building faces the forecourt of the MLC Centre building. The enormous mural attached to the exterior is an op art puzzle known as "Wrestling" by artist Josef Albers. It was created in 1976 and installed on the original building on this site.

  1. Quite a modern look. I do like the op art puzzle.

  2. That is an interesting (and confusing) work of art. I assume it is a three-dimensional structure rather than all in one plane. In either event it does trick the eye.

    1. Kenneth, it's actually two-dimensional on the surface of the glass but it does look three-dimensional.

  3. That bit of op art really does stand out. Like the blue tone to the capture. Quite the structure. Lots of glass for future reflections.

  4. Makes my brain hurt thinking about that one! Looks good though.

  5. That is a great op-art piece on this building. It sure is a counterpoint to the angular design of this wall. Great find.

  6. Wow. It looks like he took those vertical white lines and used them for his own composition. So cool. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  7. interesting to have this puzzle on the wall :)
