General Post Office, clock tower

The clock tower of the General Post Office (GPO) building, located at 1 Martin Place between George Street and Pitt Street. The GPO was constructed in stages from 1864 to 1891, designed by James Barnet in the Victorian Free Classical style. In 1999, the GPO building was redeveloped as part of the the Westin Hotel and Macquarie Bank office building behind it.

  1. What a beautiful building, Jim!! I do love the old ones and, of course, your blue, blue skies!! I hope you have a great weekend!!

  2. Gorgeous shot! Great composition!

Happy Weekend coming to you ~ ^_^

  3. The General Post Office must have been extremely important. Otherwise the state government wouldn't have put so much effort into fancy architecture and decoration.

    1. It certainly was in those days with the clock tower dominating the skyline in those days and the GPO considered to be the centre of the city, with all road measurements from Sydney made from this point.

  4. What a beautiful tower with all those details !
And the blue blue sky, perfect !

  5. Nice shot. The sky is so perfectly blue and not a cloud in sight!

  6. Super tower, Jim!
    Happy weekend to you:)

  7. Lovely Victorian building, and beautiful blue Sydney sky!
