Chifley Tower

Chifley Tower is located at 2 Chifley Square, bounded by Hunter, Phillip and Bent Streets. It contains an office tower and the Chifley Plaza retail area. Chifley Tower built in 1992, is the second tallest skyscraper in Sydney, at 241 metres when measured to the top of its spire. Forty One Restaurant located on level 41 and 185m above street level, provides spectacular views of the city and Sydney Harbour. The square and tower are named after Ben Chifley, a former Prime Minister of Australia.

Chifley Tower

Built in 1992, Chifley Tower is the second tallest skyscraper in Sydney, at 241 metres when measured to the top of its spire. The square and tower are named after Ben Chifley, a former Prime Minister of Australia. This view is from Hunter Street towards Elizabeth Street and has been made possible from this angle following the demolition of a number of buildings along Hunter Street for a new development.

MLC Centre

The MLC Centre, one of the tallest skyscrapers in Sydney, rises to 67 floors above Castlereagh Street between Martin Place and King Street. It contains an office tower, a retail precinct and the Theatre Royal. The MLC Centre was Sydney's tallest office building from 1977 to 1992. Sydney Tower has been the tallest structure in Sydney since it was built in 1981. The next tallest skyscrapers in Sydney, in order of height, are Chifley Tower 1992, Citigroup Centre 2000, Deutsche Bank Place 2005, World Tower 2004 and MLC Centre 1977.

Chifley Square, sculpture

This enourmous sculpture of Ben Chifley, Labor Prime Minister from 1945 to 1949, was created by Simeon Nelson and installed in 1997. It stands in Chifley Square beside Chifley Tower, which were named after this prime minister. This artwork which stands over 9 metres is a cartoon line drawing cut from two flat sheets of stainless steel, narrowly separated by a truss, creating a two dimensional pop art sculpture. It was derived from a small grainy photo of Ben Chifley posing for a group portrait with members of British Prime Minister Atlee’s cabinet in 1947. The wall of glass in the background which is an extension of the outdoor cafe's rear wall is called Lightwall Crucimatrilux.

Aurora Place

Aurora Place is a commercial and residential development bounded by Phillip Street, Bent Street and Macquarie Street. It comprises of a 41 storey commercial tower, an 18 storey residential building and supporting retail facilities around the piazza. Aurora Place was designed by Renzo Piano, Mark Carroll and Shunji Ishida and completed in 2000. Botanic Gardens, PlantClinic

‘PlantClinic’ is a plant disease research laboratory, in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was opened in 2017 and conducts research and scientific work on plant diseases that pose a significant threat to Australia. The buildings above are Sydney Tower, MLC Centre, Deutsche Bank Place and Chifley Tower.
