This bank is located on Concord Road, in the inner west suburb of North Strathfield. It is an excellent example of suburban branches built by the Commonwealth bank in the art deco architectural style.
Jack, I suppose this was one of many suburban branches that they were building in Sydney at the time, so they probably didn't go overboard with the art deco features on all of them. This building really stands out in this suburb because others are rather plain in comparison.
Golly and it has its ATM on the footpath within reach of the ram-raiders!
ReplyDeleteLovely looking building though.
And that is something else gone by the board - going into a bank.
Great photo. I love art deco.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day, Boonie
Great architecture and perfect choice of colours :) Well spotted
ReplyDeleteThe bank has cool art-deco style, but, architecturally, Burwood post office is better. IMO...

Great view of this building:)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
This is a very sober interpretation of art deco, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYour architecture photography is very, very good indeed. The buildings and structures are interesting in themselves.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see this is still a bank. Our Com Bank in Grafton is also in this beautiful style.

ReplyDeleteIt’s an attractive building. I hope they keep it as a bank branch.
ReplyDeleteIn small American towns, there always seems to be a movie theater from this era.
ReplyDeleteI really love Art Deco architecture--not much of it here in Beirut, unfortunately.
again, you captured so well a nice building!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. You are a beautiful blog. You are an excellent photographer!
ReplyDeleteI like the simple symmetrical lines.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. That you should have a Commonwealth Bank, though we don't see much of the Commonwealth.
ReplyDeleteThey must have built a branch in every suburb in Sydney in that style. Shame most of the art deco theaters in Sydney are gone.
