Annandale, Bicentennial Park

This curious structure was recently temporarily located in Bicentennial Park in inner west suburb of Annandale. From a distance I thought it was some sort of contemporary sculpture but as I approached it, I realised it was actually a stage used for some summer performances in the park. Any performer on that stage would not only be competing with the abstract shapes attached to the back of the stage but also the spectacular backdrop of Rozelle Bay, the Anzac Bridge and the artwork on the silos at Rozelle.

  1. Wow that really is striking Jim. I thought it was a sculpture at first. The red is so dominant and the scene looks just a delight. A fabulous setting but as you say, it could be a real challenge for any performer.

  4. What a bright red stage. I hope the performers wear the right clothes and not clash! Great capture!

  5. Nice capture, Jim. I think that bright colour would compete too much with the action on the stage. I'd prefer it as sculpture, especially with the bridge backdrop!

  6. You have the Big Day out? May be the stage is for something like this.

  7. Ann, yes the Big Day Out originated in Sydney in 1992. That event is massive and would have a much bigger stage than this and is held at a much bigger park to hold its huge crowds.

  9. I would have loved the stage to be green to match the lawn or rich blue to match the water. But then noone would have noticed the set, I suppose. Mind you, the bridge the silo and the boats make a fantastic backdrop.

    BOY IN BRIGHT RED SHORTS

    Boy in bright red shorts,
    With a shirt of blue,
    Strolling on the Malecón —
    I wish I were you;

    Carefree and content,
    Nothing much to do,
    Chillin’ in your bright red shorts
    And your shirt of blue.

  22. Funny how everywhere you see this bridge design the big pylons with the cables keeping up the deck of the bridges. Lovely stage by the way.Thanks for showing.
