Double Bay, Golden Sheaf Hotel

The Golden Sheaf Hotel is located on New South Head Road in the eastern suburb of Double Bay. This heritage-listed pub was built in 1936 in the art deco style. Its four bars and a rear beer garden were refurbished in 2009.

  1. It is valued at squillions because it is a favoured watering hole of the in-group.

  2. Goodness that is a big lump of pub... it must have attracted a lot of drinkers in its day. Did it have residential facilities as well? Billiard rooms? A ladies lounge?

  3. Hels, like most of these old pubs, the upper levels were used for accommodation. It most likely had a separate Ladies Lounge and possibly billiards rooms, as many did. These days it has four different bars and a bistro.

  15. Excellent details abound, like the sunbursts that sit above the third story windows. A style of a far different era, and without cars on the street (ignoring the motorcycle), it almost looks as if we are in 1936, Nice capture!
