Botanic Gardens, obelisk

The Allan Cunningham Obelisk is located in the middle of a pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Allan Cunningham, an explorer and botanist, was a Superintendent of the Botanic Gardens. It is difficult to photograph this monument because it stands in the shadows with a very bright backdrop but I did manage to capture its reflection in the pond.

  1. An ingenious way to shoot the obelisk. Super reflection of the palm, too.

  3. How cool! I don't remember Cunningham's name from primary school Australian history classes, but he must have been important. He was part of the 1817 expedition beyond the Blue Mountains to the Lachlan and Macquarie rivers, exploring and collecting. An interesting character.

I like that we only see the whole of the obelisk in the reflection.
