ReplyDeleteGood to see women remembered - it is so rare to see them in any war memorials.
ReplyDeleteRedPat, that's probably why they decided to create this memorial. There are actually a few memorials dedicated to women in this park.
ReplyDeleteIt's a well deserved monument. Lets hope we never have to build another war monument again.

ReplyDeleteI think it is terrific that women's services are memorialised at last. It took a long time. But what about the Land Army - those women were fantastic, too.

ReplyDeleteJessie Street nee Lillingston has a very strong connection to the Clarence Valley. Her Grandfather, William Ogilvie was a famous squatter in the Upper Clarence who built a fabulous mansion, Yugilbar Castle, that was bought by the Horderns (Dept store fame) and now through marriage is owned by the Myers (also Dept store fame). I have visited a few times but it was before I was a shutterbug.
ReplyDeleteShe is such an interesting historical figure.
Thanks, Mark. I only discovered who Jessie Street was while researching this memorial. I'll have to do a post about her when I feature some other monuments from this small but significant park.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for good archive
