This is part of a large mural located on a wall along The Crescent, in the inner west suburb of Annandale. The retaining wall supports the metro tram line from Glebe to Lilyfield. The artwork is actually known as the "Glebe mural" and it features past and present images from the local area. It was commissioned by Leichhardt Council in 1980 and painted by Richard Monk..
I love public murals, as long as there is no hint of commercialism. This lovely mural represents local history :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge mural, very impressive.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great thing to do with a large blank wall. It is almost a trompe l'oeil piece.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful mural...!
ReplyDeleteA great addition to the street.
ReplyDeleteAn impressive public mural adding so much artistic colour to the streetscape! Love how the tree branches hang their shadows over the mural! Lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteVery nice mural to add a touch of elegance...I love the detail in the railings on the building!
ReplyDeleteA good example of how to made an otherwise dull wall into a great one.
ReplyDeleteMural like this one certainly tells a good story of its history.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of photo I like to keep over time :)
Pretty mural. Have a fabulous week.

What a nice mural, and so blue too! Thanks for sharing your blues.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday, Jim.
What a beautiful mural.
ReplyDeleteMy Blue.
Interesting, Jim. Until I read your note, I wondered about the disconnect between the dress of the man walking his dog and the bathing suits... Now, of course, I get it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with sc, that this wall is a perfect place for a mural. Those cast iron railings make me think that the Annandale of yesteryear looked a little like New Orleans. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteVery nice mural! I like the contrast between the older building and the more modern ones and the details are wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteNicely done and still in good shape many years later!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, realism mural. Great spot for it too, always appreciate big walls being decorated with murals rather than tags.
ReplyDeleteGreat and meaningful artwork. Love it.
ReplyDeleteSuch an entertaining mural. I like it so much.
