Rookwood Memorial Gardens and Crematorium

The Rookwood Memorial Gardens and Crematorium are located in the middle of Rookwood Cemetery, in the western suburb of Rookwood. This heritage listed building features the East Chapel, West Chapel, South Chapel and Columbarium Room. It was designed by architect Frank Bloomfield in the Italianate architectural style. Opening in 1925, it is the oldest and longest serving crematorium in Australia.

  1. Even though it's a crematorium, it's a very beautiful building. I also like the soft light caught on the walls of it.

  2. It's perfectly maintained and the landscaping is well groomed. Maybe that's to distract your mind as you come to visit.

  4. The design has simple lines and yet the size suggests that it is a grand, sacred place. There is a calming effect in the shaped and contained landscaping around it.
