This heritage listed building and chimney were originally part of the Royal Hospital For Women, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. It was opened in 1905 and was run by the Benevolent Society until 1992. The hospital transferred to a new site in Randwick in 1997 and this main building was redeveloped into an apartment block.
What an interesting structure. I'll be the apartments are great as well. I've seen some apartments created in buildings with tall ceilings, and they are often very nice.
ReplyDeleteI imagine those apartments are good and solid unlike a lot of new construction!
ReplyDeleteLike schools, hospitals have such lovely big windows and high ceilings. I imagine this would make for great apartments.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Edwardian hospital buildings must have been airy and light filled. And spacious.
Deletenice place to live.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the RHW on the chimney at first...I sometimes takes me a minute! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a bit of a subtle sign I've featured this week.
DeleteThe place would be cool in summer with the high ceilings. Lovely old building.
DeleteWith the Chimney-like structure behind, looks like a factory !
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm not exactly sure what it was used for but I imagine it might have been used to generate power.
DeleteI was born in this hospital in 1974. Seems weird that it's now apartments lol
