This side view of part of the Sydney Town Hall is from the corner of Druitt Street and York Street. The heritage listed building was designed by John H. Wilson and completed in 1889 in the Grand Victorian Second Empire architectural style. It is Spring now and the leaves on the trees have just started to grow.
The Town Hall has been beautifully restored Jim, looks like there are some gorgeous stained glass windows inside. Definitely worth a visit!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful structure.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a beautiful building.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful facade.

I didn't think the renovated version would be 100% acceptable because the sandstone was old. But The City of Sydney page says the sandstone blocks, the detailed carving and the columns of the clock tower make the town hall look fine. I agree.
ReplyDeleteYes, Hels. The restorations are quite sympathetic.
DeleteAmazing. Great pic.
ReplyDeleteA very old building for Sydney and I must admit that I prefer a more modern style.
ReplyDelete...now this is a "GRAND" Second Empire style beauty! This architectural style has always been a favorite of mine and this one is a treasure. Thanks Jim for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove to see beautiful buildings preserved and restored....lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou always search out the most beautiful buildings, Jim, and you are educating the rest of the world...Australia is more than a desert surrounded by ocean.

Thanks, Kay.
DeleteThat is a nice town hall! I like when the leaves are gone and you can see the buildings facade. That happened to me in New York last winter.
ReplyDeleteGreat architecture!
