Sydney Football Stadium, commercially known as Allianz Stadium in recent years, is located along Driver Avenue, in the inner city suburb of Moore Park. It was built on the former Sydney Sports Ground in 1988 and has been a premier venue for rugby league, rugby union and soccer. The stadium closed in 2018 with plans to demolish and rebuild it.

They don't seem to build anything to last anymore.
ReplyDeleteWilliam, there has been a lot of controversy about this because many people see it as such a big waste of money by the government, to demolish a stadium which is not that old.
Delete...I remember life before naming rights!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that large corporations buy stadiums so they can put their name on them. Makes for a good sign.
ReplyDeleteThe state government still owns the stadium but the corporation pays for the naming rights.
DeleteIt isn't very old to think about demolishing it!
ReplyDeleteWhere do the Sydney Swans play? I love footy but not rugby which is too dangerous.
ReplyDeleteJoseph, this was the home ground for the Sydney Roosters in Rugby League. The Sydney Cricket Ground, next door, is used for Australian Rules by the Sydney Swans.
DeleteIt looks too good to tear down, but i'm not an architect or engineer, for all i know it would cost more to repair than rebuild.
ReplyDeleteImpressive view !
