Stanmore, St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church
St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church is located along Clarendon Road, in the inner west suburb of Stanmore. It was built in 1916 in the Federation style.
I'm intrigued with the design of this old church. The Gothic arch in the middle with a pointed arch above as the roofline and another arch below over the doorway - both of highly differing angles. I've never seen anything quite like it.
Interesting church. It was built so long ago but before I read your description I thought I detected a hint of midcentury modern in the design.
ReplyDeleteIt's the flower patterns in the lead light windows that places it earlier in the century for me.

ReplyDeleteVery nice looking church
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me very much of a church a few blocks away from my home.
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow painted trim around the edges, looks a bit more welcoming.
