St James Anglican Church, Queens Square

These summer flowers are in Queens Square, on the corner of St James Road and Macquarie Street. St James Anglican Church is a heritage listed church designed by convict architect Francis Greenway in the Old Colonial Regency style. It is the oldest church building in Sydney and has been in continuous use from its consecration in 1824.

  1. Not only is it the oldest church building in Sydney, it seems to have been well preserved since the 1820s. Even the garden space has been protected.

  4. Beautiful shot! I love seeing all the flowers in the warmer areas of the world. In Colorado we're still in the midst of winter.

  5. Lovely! I assume that the architect was reformed. Or did he forge the blueprints? Lol.

    1. Yes he was reformed but interestingly he was transported to Australia as a convict for the crime of forgery.

  6. Beautiful church and gardens. The fact that it is in a big city with skyscrapers all around it give it even more of an appeal.
