This substation is located along Lily Street, in the southern suburb of Allawah. St George County Council was once the electricity supplier for this area which was set up in 1922. In 1979 the organisation was dissolved and Sydney’s electricity services amalgamated to form the Sydney County Council which eventually became Energy Australia. The substation, adjacent to Allawah Railway Station, was built in the art deco style and retains its heritage signage.

It's fascinating how this art deco substation near Allawah Station quietly preserves a piece of Sydney’s electrical and civic history—its heritage signage a rare reminder of the layered legacy of local infrastructure
ReplyDeleteThe art deco style in red brick could be very rugged. Even though a sub station was purely functional and didn't have to be attractive.

ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see it still here. Beautiful.
