Rozelle, motorway stacks

These are two of the three chimney stacks above motorways in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. The Rozelle Interchange is an underground junction of the M4 and M8 Motorways which link to Anzac Bridge and the Western Distributor. The stacks were designed by architect Chris Fox as part of Rozelle Parklands, a 10-hectare green space which opened in 2023.

  1. Interesting. Are the chimney stacks functioning? Is it just art?

    1. Yes, they are functional ventilation units but also public art.

  2. This reminds me of silo art that started in rural Victoria. There is no reason that major functional structures can't attract people to look at the beauty they add to the landscape.
