Saint Thomas Presbytery is located along Thomas Street, in the inner city suburb of Lewisham. This heritage listed building was built around the 1870s as the presbytery for nearby St Thomas Becket Catholic Church. It was restored in 2020 to provide offices, meeting rooms and aminities for the Eileen O'Connor Catholic College.

The veranda is stunning, it would be a good view from up there.

DeleteThis Presbytery has the same handsome Victorian architecture as Melbourne church facilities, but it looks like they were using bricks and not local bluestone. Were bricks cheaper or longer lasting?
ReplyDeleteI'd guess bricks were cheaper than stone. They were covered in stucco for years but exposed in the restoration.
