Rookwood, vault
This sandstone family vault built in the Gothic Revival architectural style is located in the Anglican section of Rookwood Cemetery, in the eastern suburb of Rookwood. Continuing the look around Rookwood from the last three days.

Rookwood, chapel
The Sacred Heart Catholic Chapel in Rookwood Necropolis, in the western suburb of Rookwood. The chapel was built in 1928, when the railway line had been extended and Mortuary Station Number Three was built nearby. The funeral train services were discontinued in 1948. The chapel wasfully restored in 2011 and is used again for funeral services.

Ultimo, Powerhouse Museum, fire engines
These historic fire engines are on display at the Powerhouse Museum, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo, near Darling Harbour. The red one is a horse-drawn, steam pump fire engine made by Merryweather & Sons at Greenwich, England, in 1895 and used at Broken Hill, New South Wales. The green one is a portable, single cylinder four horsepower steam engine made by Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies, Orwell Works, at Ipswich, England in 1904 and used at Parkes, New South Wales.

Glebe, incinerator
The former Glebe Incinerator is located at the end of Forsyth Street, in the inner west suburb of Glebe. It was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and built in 1933 in the art deco architecural style. It operated until 1949 and then the furnace and flue were demolished in 1952. The remaining part of the shed and chimney stack were restored and reinterpreted in 2006 and the building is now used as a community hall and function centre.

Customs Square, sand sculpture
This life size sand sculpture of the inside of an aircraft was located in Customs Square at Circular Quay last week. It was part of a Qantas Airlines and Gold Coast Tourism promotion created by sand sculptors from Sand In Your Eyes.

Botanic Gardens, Lion Gate
The Lion Gate leads to the Lion Gate Lodge, originally the home of the Head Gardener in the Royal Botanic Gardens. The lodge is now a function centre and it was renamed in 1979 after the two iron statues, "The Lion" and "The Lioness", which guard this gate. They were presented to the Botanic Gardens in 1912 by the executors of the estate of Edward Sanders and restored in 1989.
