Kurnell, sunset

This sunset is viewed from Kurnell, the southern headland of Botany Bay. Kurnell is considered to be ‘the birthplace of modern Australia’ because it is the place where Captain James Cook and his ship the Endeavour landed on 29th April 1770. This led to the British settlement of Australia in 1788, when the First Fleet arrived. It's a brilliant view across the bay with flag pole and tree silhouettes on the shore.

  1. Tremendous sky Jim, which you have captured brilliantly. Not a breath of wind to flutter the flags.

Being a country lass, I originally took these to be fox carcasses drying! It is all in the perception, m'boy!

  2. That's funny. It's not your usual flag pole, that's for sure.

  3. Stunning shot, Jim! I, too, am amazed at there NO movement in the flags, that's got to be unusual! And thanks for the history lesson that always makes the photo even more interesting!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  14. It's probably me but for a moment I thought there were people hanging there in the middle of the photo...Lovely silhouettes and thanks for the history-lesson. Afterall: without history we wouldn;t be where we are today and you wouldn't have been able to take this pretty shot...;-)

  37. That is simply stunning! Also, I really like the little snippets of
Australian history that you add. (I hid comic books in my school books too often way back when I should have learned these things. But in my defense, the school books didn't have such beautiful pictures!) Tx for sharing!
