Pyrmont, old wharf

The pylons and remnants of an old wharf are seen here reflected in Johnstons Bay at Pyrmont. They have been retained as a 'pole garden', beside the parkland which was previously the site of the water police headquarters. It is now an extension of Pyrmont Point Park which will soon be renamed Pirrama Park, to recognise the original Aboriginal name for the Pyrmont peninsula.

    I loved the silhouette of the Anzac bridge against the gold sky .

    What makes these photo extraordinary is the soft afternoon light falling on the old pilings and the water.

    I'll bet the fishing is good there!

    I've just been look at all your Pyrmont series. The photos are great. You've done a good job of capturing the essence of the change from it's industrial heritage to the upmarket parklike surrounds they are today. I enjoyed the walk in the park with you.

    Stefe, I loved Water Rats too. I believe that show was actually filmed at nearby Goat Island. I'd say the Pyrmont headquarters would have been too busy to allow them to film there.

    Lovely photos, I remeber going around there on the ferry, but I think it stopped elsewhere. Water Rats was a really good show.

    Are there barnacles or oysters growing on the poles? I suppose the poles don't rot, in case some people decide to use this as their play ground.
