“I Wish” is a pink concrete sculpture of a girl mounted on a sandstone plinth which is located in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was created by Czechoslovakian born Arthur Fleischman in 1946 and stands at the site of the first Wishing Tree. Curiously, every time I pass by here, the girl is holding some freshly cut flowers and on this day it was camelias.
We loved the Royal Botanic Gardens on our one trip to Sydney several years ago. When we return later this year, we want to see if we can get some photos of the bats flying out at dusk.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot and gorgeous site.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
I would like to think it was an ordinary citizen (and not a paid gardener) putting flowers onto the I Wish sculpture. That would make the sculpture into a public asset, one that families cared about.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful statue and I like its title! Great shot!
ReplyDeleteThe bright sunshine provided a great shot with some wonderful shadows.
ReplyDeleteShe's lovely Jim, intriguing to know who her mystery admirer is!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree with Grace, she is so lovely and it would be intriguing to know who her mystery admirer is!! Terrific shadow shot for the day, Jim!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tradition: giving the girl some fresh flowers! I'd be tempted to visit every day, just to see what she's holding!

Beautiful, elongated sculpture! It reminds me of a sculpture version of Modigliani's paintings! Love the touch of the fresh flowers too!
ReplyDeleteYou have great shots! I enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly does look very wistful.
ReplyDeleteLovely statue. Reminds me of one I saw in the botanical gardens at Del Mar California.
ReplyDeleteShe has a sad quality about her that appeals to me.

ReplyDeleteLovely picture.
ReplyDeleteI find any Botanic garden is always full of some of the loveliest foliage ever. This one sounds like a great place to visit. However, in that area most everything is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch an unusual botanical statue. Very interesting, and the rotating bouquet of flowers are a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Leah
