Botany, School of Arts

The Botany School of Arts building is located along Botany Road in the eastern suburb of Botany. It was built in 1867 in the Victorian architectural style. It now houses the John Brotchie Memorial Pre-School, named after a former Town Clerk of Botany Council. The mural at the front is in the style of a children's painting.

  2. Since the building is fairly small and the starting date was in the 1860s, I am guessing the Botany School of Arts was some sort of working man's institute. It must have been lovely, in its time.

    1. The School of Arts in those days was really a School of Industrial Art where men went to learn their trade eg. carpenter, electrician, plumber etc. It was basically what a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) College is today.
