The Department of Education building is located along Bridge Street. It was designed by George McRae and built in 1914 in the Edwardian architectural style. In contrast, Governor Phillip Tower along Farrer Place rises up behind it. The 64 storey office tower completed in 1994 was designed by architects Denton Corker Marshall.

The rusticated first floor looks very Italian Renaissance to me. A smart design, thank you.
ReplyDeleteSuch a contrast between buildings in so many ways. I prefer the older one myself.

ReplyDeleteI like the contrast between the two buildings, beautiful shot !
ReplyDeleteLove the contrasts between old and new architecture.
ReplyDeleteI, too, like the contrast but have to say, the older architecture wins hands down when it comes to beauty of detail.
ReplyDeleteWhat and interesting contrast. The older building is so beautiful.

Captivating angle, it almost makes the newer building look some how fake if that makes any sense. I prefer the grace and detail in older architecture but am learning to appreciate modern architecture as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
